thanks for all the replies. i think i will do some comparison searches to try to gauge what i will have to pay out then just go through the insurance. cant be bothered arguing with an unreasonable person and i really resent giving her the money to go to the garage that she wants to go to when she knows that it is not the most suitable choice of garage. i have her address and i see the good autobody shop that was recommended is 300 meters from her house. and its a good price. yet she wants to go thirty miles away and cost me more money. eurgh.
Living 300m away she may well know more about the bodyshop than your Google results show.

I imagine she is annoyed as an innocent party that someone ran into her and then tries to tell her where she can/can't go to get the car repaired.

Don't waste your time, from her point of view the friend's garage is the most suitable, just let the insurance deal with it and move on. Your premium increase over the next 5 years will likely be less than £700 anyway.
I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

(except air quality and Medical Science ;))
  • How dare she be unreasonable and choose where she gets her car fixed after someone else drove into it and is trying to make her go for the cheaper fix!  She sounds awful.
