Caused a prang - to go through insurance or not?

Living 300m away she may well know more about the bodyshop than your Google results show.

 I imagine she is annoyed as an innocent party that someone ran into her and then tries to tell her where she can/can't go to get the car repaired.

Don't waste your time, from her point of view the friend's garage is the most suitable, just let the insurance deal with it and move on. Your premium increase over the next 5 years will likely be less than £700 anyway.

How dare she be unreasonable and choose where she gets her car fixed after someone else drove into it and is trying to make her go for the cheaper fix!  She sounds awful.
