Any way round paying off BT for remainder of contract?

Options
Just called BT as I'm moving in a couple of weeks.  I was buying a place, but that has fallen through, so now staying with a friend for a while. She has Broadband service so was planning to use hers until I find another place.  Previous discussions with BT were around moving the service to my new house, but in my new situation, now BT tell me that as I still have quite a bit to go on my contract, I have to pay £420 to honour the contract if I don't transfer my service elsewhere.  Ouch!  I chatted with the BT person about other options, but it seems there aren't really any.  They say they give you 60 days to transfer the service, if not, you get billed for the remainder of the contract.  Didn't think I'd be moving into temporary digs when renewing with BT. Ooops.  I think I'll just have to pay them, but wondered if anyone else had been in this position and been able to negotiate an alternative?

Very common question on the forum.  The answer is no, the agreement is to provide service at a specific address and if you decide to up sticks and move because you decide to go abroad/move for a job/feel like it/the cat wanted to move and the provider can't supply the service at the new address, cancellation fees will apply.  You decided to move, the provider didn't make you move.
