Faulty bathroom tap

Options
I bought a replacement tap for my bathroom sink on 13th October (from Amazon) after plumber told me there was a fault with my previous one (very low cold water flow).
He fitted it a few days later, all has been fine with the functioning of it but after a few days stains from water marks started to show, and despite using cleaners/sprays etc, the stains remain. It’s all the way across the handle and very prominent.

I’ve spoken with Amazon and they have offered a refund with no return needed, however it means I will have to purchase another tap and pay for a plumber to come out and refit.
Does anyone know where I stand with regards to the manufacturer covering these costs , as this is purely down to the poor quality of the product. I’ve approached them however don’t hold out much hope of them covering this cost.

  • You purchased a tap from Amazon. They have refunded you.

You paid someone else, your plumber, to fit the tap. Amazon are not responsible for this.

Had you allowed your plumber to purchase and fit your tap, then your plumber would be responsible.
  • I agree.  They've been helpful by not asking you to return it.  They owe you nothing more.

It's almost always best to ask a tradesperson to supply and fit.  Trying to save a few pennies by buying yourself comes with risk, as you've discovered.  Buy cheap, buy twice.

Section 23 of The Consumer Rights Act 2015 says (amongst other things):
23 Right to repair or replacement
    (1) This section applies if the consumer has the right to repair or replacement (see section 19(3) and (4)).
    (2) If the consumer requires the trader to repair or replace the goods, the trader must—
    (a) do so within a reasonable time and without significant inconvenience to the consumer, and
    (b) bear any necessary costs incurred in doing so (including in particular the cost of any labour, materials or postage).

Para (2) is the pertinent part.

In this case, 'the trader' means Amazon or the Amazon Seller.

Yeah Amazon have been helpful as far as they can. I bought the tap directly as my plumber couldn’t source the style I wanted, not really due to costs as there wasn’t much difference anyway. I didn't expect there to be such a risk with buying a tap from what seems to be a reputable trader! I’ll wait to hear from the manufacturer.
