Shiply courier threatening to sue me due to negative review

Options
Hi all,
I bought an item on eBay last week and hired a courier on Shiply to get it to my place. Long story short, the courier charged me more than quoted and he later called me after the delivery to demand even more money, but I refused this second attempt. I felt he was dishonest, so I left a review that read "stay away from him".
He's now texted me, contacted me via WhatsApp and even called me because of the review. After a long call on the phone, I told him I'd pay the £12 extra he's demanding to avoid wasting more time on this, but I won't be updating/removing the review. He refused, and said that he'll take me to court if I don't pay him the £12 AND change the review. So we ended the call with him saying he'll take me to court -- Presumably over the £12 I already said I'd paid, as I don't think it's illegal to leave a negative review.
Now, I have a lot going on in my personal life and work, so the last thing I need is to be taken to court over £12. I just want to pay the £12 and move on with my life, but he won't give me his bank account details until I update/delete the review. As much as I'd like to avoid the hassle of going to court, I refuse to change the review, so my plan is to just pay the £12 as soon as I get the letter from the court, however, having done some research online, it's not clear to me if that'd still leave a mark on my credit history.
To make things worse, I'm supposed to be away shortly after the lockdown ends next month, so if the letter arrives when I'm away I may not be able to respond within 14 days, so I don't know if there's any pre-emptive action I can take.
What do you reckon I should do? Should I talk to a lawyer at this point?
Thanks!

Ignore him, block him, and move on with your life. He's not going to take you to court.

He won't raise a court claim over £12 - period. Even if he was stupid enough to try, it will not affect your credit history in any way unless a) he wins [dubious given what you say] unless you ignored the claim and he got a default judgment, and b) you didn't pay the judgment in the time stipulated. a) and b) would be in your own control.

He cannot raise a court claim over alleged defamation as MCOL (small claims) does not allow for such a claim (I believe). Also your defence to such a charge is the truth - if what you've stated is truthful then it cannot be defamation.
  • Ignore him.

Amend your review - but only to add a description of his new threats. Ignore those threats, and don't pay him the £12.
  • Tell him to do one, and send the boys round. Simple.
