Online conveyancing solicitor wanted in testing times!

Hi ALL,
I would use Simpson & Millar for my conveyancing however due to the situation they are not taking on any more clients at present. Can anyone recommend an alternative that they have used recently as I know many firms have furloughed lots of staff? Many thanks (other than Bishopsgatelaw or Myhomemove or MUVE. )

I used premier property lawyers. I think they are a bit marmite on here with some having terrible experiences and others like me having good ones. They did make one balls up towards the end of it all, but quickly rectified and all in all would use them again.

What do you mean by online?  Cheap? You can instruct someone anywhere, they don't have to be local to you.

Don't use Muve even if tempted. Our sellers used them, and they took so long to answer queries (five months for a fairly simple purchase with no chain). The conveyancer couldn't even write a simple email or answer straightforward questions without numerous mistakes. I'm sure some people have a decent experience but we got someone who was clearly overworked and poorly supervised.

I'd be very dubious of TrustPilot reviews as those are heavily curated by the companies who can remove/hide bad reviews. The best thing to do is ask around friends/colleagues who've moved recently. I'd have hoped that posting it here would get a better response but hey ho.

It's a one-woman band, so you deal directly with the Solicitor handling your case. Guess this could potentially cause problems if she were to become ill or want to take a long holiday. But had no problems myself.
  • Don't use Premier Property Lawyers - they did my remortgage and were rubbish and expensive.  It took them 6 months to do a simple remortgage, you couldn't get hold of them on the phone, they took forever to respond to emails and cost me quite a bit of money in the end thanks to how long it took them.

I think its been said on other threads, but with a setup like PPL, it really depends on who is handling your transaction. Our vendors are using them (through PurpleBricks) and they have a named person to contact. To be honest, they haven't been too bad so far and no worse than the 'factory' being used by our purchaser. Not as on the ball as my conveyancer who works for a small local firm of solicitors which I have used on several occasions.

We are using O'neill patient solicitors and they're fab. Check out their trust pilot reviews online! We have an app to track the progress, msg our case manager and upload documents etc too!

We used Muve recently and I found them really good. They were much quicker and efficient than the local solicitor that my vendor was using.
But I think everyone has both good and bad experiences with both ‘online’ and local firms.
  • I’m using John W Davies and they’ve been great. The sellers solicitor is a disaster and they’ve really done all they can to keep the process moving. We’ve done everything online, except for 2 trips to the post office to post signed documents (mortgage deed, etc).

I'm using MyHomeMove (https://myhomemoveconveyancing.ceway.co.uk) and can highly recommend James Summerfield. I used him multiple times when he worked at a high street solicitors and it was an easy decision to follow him online. I love that I can log in to my account and see the progress of my sale and purchase.
