Composite Door Scratch?

My other half wanted an expensive composite door and after it was fitted over the weekend i notice a scratch above the letter box. You can't see it from a distance but although i have been told they eventually get covered in marks anyway i wondered if we should have gone for another cheap upvc door instead. She choose black so you couldn't see dirt on the door. Any advice on this folks?

When we bought our new build it had a scratch on the black composite front door. They got a company in to repair it and you really couldn't see the repair.

The door has since been replaced due to other issues but we were happy with the original repair.

As for black not showing up dirt, well that is just not true. Black doors, much like black cars show the dirt up much worse than other colours!

The previous door was upvc and because it was white you could see mud and marks on it but scratches were not as visible, we were hoping the black would hide most of the brown dirt but we didn't account for scratches. I'm fairly certain this scratch wasn't on there a couple of days ago so no idea where it came from. I am not a fan of composite doors due to the price tag and our upvc lasted us 22 years so although it looks attractive I'm wondering how long for.

Wonder if those Konfig pen things work?

  • you can get a touch up pen from eurocell or gap near you for around £20 or less . or contact the firm to ask them if they have a pen you could either borrow or ask them to do it . Depending on the company I buy comp doors and they send a small touch up pot with every door . My advise like a metallic car do it in stages and build up the paint .
