New car breakdowns

My fiancé purchased a brand new vauxhall grandland x 18 months ago,it has been in their repair shop 5 times for a total of 4 months in that time. Obviously they can't seem to put it right as it still breaks down. Its on 5 years Interest free credit,we do not want to keep the car but the only option they offer is for us to part ex for a new car, which will not be interest free, what are on our rights for a replacement car, without any financial repercussions on our part as we are losing out financially

After 18 month's use, the only options will be to return the car for cash recompense ('part-ex') with a deduction for the time-benefit of having the car 18 months.  You may be able to negotiate a higher 'compensation' value as a gesture of good will.  Then you need to buy something else - if you buy something else from the same dealer they are more likely to slightly enhance the trade in value as an acknowledgement of the troubles.

If you don't like the offers from Vauxhall, you can take the car and trade in anywhere else, or sell via WBAC and then buy cash from somewhere else.  Whatever you get for the car by selling it, will pay of the outstanding finance first.

It is not realistic to expect that after 18 months you will return the car for full refund of original purchase price.  You always expected to incur depreciation in the first 18 months of use.  That is not changed by the car having faults.

What was the outcome you would have liked?

You are always going to lose out if you change now.....get them to repair it properly and get a free courtesy car while they do.

What are the faults that the Vauxhall main dealer cannot fix on a brand new car?
