Same for the Vax platinum , Christ it's loud!

Drinks carpet cleaner too , I buy mine from Screwfix and water it down 50:50 to make it go further , still does a fine job doing that too

Have you considered a refurbished model ? I got mine off eBay for half price and I can't fault it

Another vote for the second hand route - I bought a Rug Dr from E-Bay at the start of the year, you can buy them on E-Bay now and again or keep an eye on the rug dr page:
    https://www.rugdoctor.co.uk/product/deep-carpet-cleaner-refurbished/

I paid £150 for it and its probably been used monthly since then, more that paid for itself and its also got the "hand" tool to giive the car seats / stairs etc. a going over.
Performance wise - I'ce got a 1 yr old, a 4 yr old and 2 border collies combined with a cream (don't ask - Pre kids and dogs!) main downstairs carpet - While id be lying to say its immaculate, after a good clean its pretty close to it.
As others have mentioned if you intend to give the carpet/house a bit more than a one off, it will easily pay for itself over time, no matter what model you buy.

Edit: You may also get to the weird fascination that I've achieved, in you think its all clean, you hoover it regularly, keep shoes and dogs out of a certain room etc., then you clean it and wonder how on earth the water can be so filthy! It genuinely never ceases to amaze me how much dirt they pull out of a "clean" carpet!

A tip on using carpet cleaners.

Vacuum thoroughly first with a vacuum cleaner and use far less shampoo/carpet cleaner in the Vax or other machine than recommended and rinse with clean water three to four times.

I dilute the shampoo with water to about 25% to 35% and that still does the job.

If you leave shampoo residue in the carpet it quickly attracts more dirt so the more rinsing you do the better.

Another tip is to spot clean any heavily stained areas first.

A man walked into a car showroom.
He said to the salesman, “My wife would like to talk to you about the Volkswagen Golf in the showroom window.”
Salesman said, “We haven't got a Volkswagen Golf in the showroom window.”
The man replied, “You have now mate".

If you could get a recommendation for a good carpet cleaner, I'd hire him/her. The job will be done in half the time it would take you and without the stress.

And ban shoes and pets on your carpet from that point forward.
