Funeral help

Hi everyone, a bit of advice please. My mum passed away on the 12 October and her funeral was last weeek on the 28th. When she died she had no estate and no will and lived in a rented house paid for by benefits, which my dad still lives in now. He’s 74 and gets a state pension. He is on benefits and gets pension credits, housing benefits attendance allowance. He has no savings at all. The funeral came to £6500 and £2500 has been paid so far already. Me and my sisters are going 3rds on it. But can my dad get money for the funeral, then me and my sisters won’t have to pay so much. Many thanks

The govt. website says if (like your Dad) you receive pension credits, and meet other criteria, you are eligible for help. I tried to provide links but I'm not allowed to do so, not being a prolific poster!
If you go to the www.gov.uk site and input funeral payments in the search box, it should take you to the page that explains it all, and from that page it leads you to the form to be completed.

But do noteIf there’s a close relative of the deceased who is not getting one of these benefits, you might not be able to claim Funeral Expenses Payment.
The circumstances of you and your sister may therefore affect your father’s eligibility for help. However there is nothing to be lost by him applying.
Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.2 -
Many thanks for everyone’s help, it’s very much appreciated0
