How to move money from France account to a UK account after selling house in France

Hello,
I am investigating this on behalf of my parents. They recently sold their home in France and the notaire has arranged the money to be paid into the French account.
My parents are now living in the UK and want to move the money to their English account. Has anyone done this recently? Their English bank say they won't charge them to receive the money but the French bank will charge. Is there a way to avoid paying high transfer fees or pay very low transfer fees? Any suggestions would be much appreciated. I have looked into and their are companies that do this but I am worried how safe that is.

We did this via our French Bank with a very small fee and no problems. If this was their main home they shouldn't have any capital gains tax to pay.It is worth watching the exchange rates and even leaving the money in France if you watch the rates. When we collected the monies from one house the bank manager actually advised us to wait another 3 days as we earn't 60 euro's extra in interest!1

using transferwise or currency would be an option.

Starling Bank will work like a dream. Better than Transferwise as Starling have deposit protection. None of the other currency transfer services has deposit protection, either.0
