Window quilts

Hi, was just wondering if window quilts were still a thing and if anyone has made any recently. We have a conservatory and love the daylight in the room but hate the cold. Was wondering if we could make window quilts for the roof and, funnily enough, windows, what fabric/insulating material we should use and if it would make much of a difference.

All opinions welcome.
Thanks in advance.

Yes, I know any sort of covering would block the light coming in, would mostly use them for the long cold nights and some of the few long cold days we get.

What type of roof does the conservatory have?  If it is a glass or plastic sheets then that is where you are loosing most of the heat.
  • You can get curtains made with an interlining. It's a piece of fabric that goes between the curtain fabric and the lining and provides some insulation. The interlining is made of the same sort of stuff that you'd use to make quilts.

I made some interlined curtains for an old house with old single glazed windows, it makes a huge difference to the temperature of the room when the curtains are closed, and the interlining makes them hang really well.

Glass, blue active apparently which was meant to be more efficient but not true.

I'm curious and had to make some effort to find what window quilts were. What a lovely idea. So much nicer than the bland polyester ones.
I hung one over the big window in my front door during a heatwave and it worked wonders. It's made with stained glass type colours and the light looked wonderful through it.
One day - lol - I want to make one that fits.

I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!
