Philips Air Flosser - Faulty

Had you exercised your consumer rights when the first unit failed, you probably would have had to provide some evidence to the retailer that the fault was a manufacturing one. Usually, that would be achieved by independent inspection, paid for by you. If it proved that was the case, the retailer would have had to act; a replacement, refund or repair plus paying you the cost of the inspection.Chrissy2020 said:Thank you for your comment. However, I am disappointed by your tone. I am fully aware of having the product for a total of 3.5 years and one doesn't need to be educated to understand the standard/default information you have replied with. I was hoping for a little more knowledge around potential faults designed into a product, not the generic information you have provided for 'Joe Bloggs'.
Just because the 2-year warranty has been essentially used up doesn't explain the fact that all these units have lasted no more than 12 months, as little as 4. This is why I was after, maybe, some deeper knowledge around this area that I don't have. If this website doesn't offer that level of capability then just say that.
By going down the warranty route, you are bound by the terms of that warranty which I suspect don't provide perpetual replacements. I'd grab the voucher, it's more than you're (probably) entitled to.
As for quality control, as suggested the only thing you can do is leave accurate product reviews and vote with your wallet by buying a different brand next time.2 -
Have you had any independent tests to back up this statement?Chrissy2020 said:Thank you for your comments. I just wanted some advice regarding the 2 year warranty on the original purchase but how that relates to never having one of these units last for anywhere near the 2 years and as such how robust is the warranty being provided specifically for this item that appears to have a design fault built into it. That was more my angle.
As why would a manufacture do such a thing, given they have sent you 3 replacements in the 3.5 years, which will have more than wiped out any profit on the item.Life in the slow lane2 -
As alluded to earlier, there's a systemic problem here ... either with the design/manufacture of the model, or with the OP's use of it. (I suspect the latter).1

Assume the product does have a built in design flaw -- then why would you want another one, at any price? It will still fail in the same way (after all, they won't remove the flaw just for your replacement!)
Change brands and hope it's better made, or try an alternative product to achieve the same task (water-pick flosser?)

I've just had a look and various outlets are hawking Philips Air Flossers for £20, claiming huge discounts on RRP. Perhaps the OP is on to something and they are actually a bit crap. Well that would be one explanation for retailers seeming desperate to get rid of the things. I've got nothing helpful to say otherwise, @KatrinaWaves and @Aylesbury_Duck seem to have covered it all.

I don't really understand what the OP is complaining about. They buy a product in September 2017 with a two year warranty/guarantee and the manufacturer replaces it twice within the two year period. Usually people moan that they can't get things fixed under warranty etc, not that they do.When I buy a product with a "n years" guarantee, I presume the manufacturer reasonably expects it to last up to "n years", but doesn't have much confidence it will last much longer. I factor that into buying decisions.I also factor in whether I need it. An air flosser... ?0
