New Xbox now out of stock

Options
My nephew pre-ordered and paid for the new Xbox series X and at the time of ordering was given confirmation that the order was complete and would be delivered on the release date,
He has now been informed (several weeks after the order was accepted and paid for) by the retailer that it will not have enough stock on the release date and he will have to wait until they have stock available. He paid be debit card. Does he have any redress?

Not really, they can't just magic one out of thin air. You could ask for the money back and try somewhere else, but stocks will be the same everywhere until after Christmas.
  • I'll sell you mine for £1k. Collection only, though.

Of course he has redress if delivery on the release date was part of the deal.  He should ask for a full refund.
