Replacing a light fitting

Ok, so I assumed this would be super easy. I’ve done some bits in the past but am a novice so excuse me if I come across as an idiot. I’ve tried replacing my previous light fitting which had a 3 wire fitting with a 2 Wire one in the new and I’m pretty confused. The previous had 1 blue wire going into the live and 1 blue going into the neutral and the 2 yellow/green wires both going into the middle one. The new light has 2 wire sockets, a live and neutral and I have

2 blue wires and 2 yellow/green to go in.

2 blue wires and 2 yellow/green to go in. Any advice would be appreciated,
thanks,

I suspect that some muppet wired the lifht switch with standard blue/brown T+E and used the blue as the switched live. Ideally, it should have been brown/brown+earth, or at least had a bit of brown sleeving over the switched live (not regulation compliant, but better than nothing). There does appear to be a brown live plus a terminal block poking out in the first image...On the assumption that this new light fitting is fully insulated, connect the two earth wires together with a single terminal block. Try and identify which of the blue wires is the switched live and pop a bit of insulating tape or sleeving on it. Connect up, job done.Any language construct that forces such insanity in this case should be abandoned without regrets. –

hahaha, get real. I've seen twin brown/twin red about 5 times in my life, it's rare as hens teeth, I think it might be commonly used in northern Ireland, but it's certainly not common over here. so it doesn't mean the house has been wired by a muppet.FreeBear said:I suspect that some muppet wired the lifht switch with standard blue/brown T+E and used the blue as the switched live.
if that new light takes edison screw lamps you'll need to check the polarity with a tester to make sure you get it the right way round. if it just takes BC or G9 then put the green/yellows into the earth terminal, 1 blue in L and the other blue in N0
