Supplier 6m lengths sewer pipes

Hello all
We are renewing some underground drainage. Seems difficult to find sewer pipes in 6m lengths, all the merchants I have tried only do 3m.
Anyone who you would recommend for this? Also our location is remote area of western Scotland, so needs to deliver to Highlands and islands without requiring an arm, leg and several vital organs in return.....
Thank you!

I've bought many 6m drainage pipes (the orange plastic 110mm ones) from Jewson.  A quick search online also shows 6m lengths readily available.  I doubt that the main DIY 'sheds' (Wickes etc) would stock them as they are an awkward length for a store and are more of a builders 'yard' type thing.  Is a 6m length essential rather than two 3m lengths and a suitable coupler?
I can't help with the location though.  What do builders on the islands do for their materials?

Someone like Jewsons or Buildbase should be able to supply 6m lengths, but.... Highlands & Islands may mean that only 3m lengths are economical to transport. If you were looking at buying online, I suspect you will be stuffed unless you are ordering a seriously large quantity and willing to pay substantial shipping costs.
For short runs, it is going to be easier & cheaper to use 3m lengths and straight couplings.

  • I checked Jewson's website. Looked liked their price is £54.59 per 6m length which seems a tad excessive!
There are a few local merchants who also tend to be contractors, but we are not using them for labour. So getting them to give us a price for materials only can be tricky.

Given your location, you are either going to be paying and arm and a leg for delivery, or paying local contractors with a similar array of body parts.
The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.
  • Yup! The joys of living in such a beautiful location!!! Got a slightly better price from Jewson's when I phoned them. Their trade price is £30.32 per length which is slightly better then the internet price.
Awaiting response from local merchants...... Meantime will select which of the vital organs I can part with first!

I've found that most builders merchants have a flexible pricing policy, and the list price is not what one ends up paying - Quite often play one off against another to get a better deal. Around here, I'll price up from B&Q and use that to open negotiations. If the builders merchants can get within a pound or two and throw in free delivery, they usually get the business. Not so easy in remote areas.

Agreed.  The Jewson website prices seem almost designed to put buyers off, yet I've had 60% off list price for drainage items by talking to the branch manager.  OK, my order had to exceed £1000 but that was at list price, so the actual cost to me was only £400 - and I'm just a DIYer with a credit account.  Goodness knows what sort of discount 'proper' builders must get!

  • Just a wee update. Heard back from both local suppliers. The pipe that cost £30 from Jewson's comes in at either £17 or £22 plus delivery. So I will definitely be shopping local!
