Refund on goods described incorrectly

Options
I bought some mirrors from a website online. They cost me about £35 but when they arrived they were not at all how the photos on the website made them appear. The quality and materials was cheap and I don't believe the mirrors I was sent are the ones in the picture. They came from the US and the company have offered a full refund if I return them. Unfortunately, they won't refund the postage or cover the return costs and the return postage is between £25-£35 so its not worth me returning them. They've now offered me 50% of the purchase price (not including postage) but I don't want them. They're cheap crap that looks like a school woodwork project. Is the 50% refund my best option here?

  • If it's a US retailer then your consumer rights are those of the US, which may or may not leave them liable for return costs under what we would term a distance sale.   For the small amount involved I suspect it's worth taking the part refund and selling them on eBay or similar to try and recover the rest of the £17.50.
