Green Homes Grant

Hello,
I’m trying to get my head around this and could do with some help from people who understand more than I do. I’ve checked availability and there’s only one registered trader in my area so I am unable to get three quotes as advised. As me and my partner are on Universal Credit we are eligible for the full £10k grant. The registered trader has advised underfloor insulation and cavity wall insulation coming to just under £8k in total but his company don’t do the work in the secondary part of the scheme. If we go ahead I’m assuming that would leave us with up to £2k for secondary level work but does that also have to be from a registered trader? Finally, the registered trader has given the quote without visiting our house based on information I’ve given over the phone and our EPC, my worry is that the final figure won’t line up with this is there any protection since the government has elected who the registered traders are?
any help or advice is really welcome.

I am not an expert, but I think the answer to your question is that all work, primary and secondary, has to be completed by a registered installer:

"Work cannot be completed by yourself, a member of your household or your immediate family.

All work covered by the voucher must be completed by a TrustMark-registered installer who is also registered for the scheme. Your installer will also need to meet PAS and MCS standards when installing your measures."

    From https://www.gov.uk/guidance/apply-for-the-green-homes-grant-scheme

You don't have to have three quotes, but a high quote may be rejected by the scheme administrator. You will need a quote for the secondary work as well as the primary work, but they do not have to be from the same registered trader.

You need to discuss with the installer providing the quote about not exceeding it.

  • Thank you for your reply. I have no idea where I got the information for finding my first trader but with a little more digging I found a phone number for the Green Homes Grant and they directed me to TrustMark.org.uk where I have found access to a lot more companies. They were also helpful in telling me I needed quotes for both parts of the claim and advising that all quotes are likely to be done remote as Covid makes it impossible for companies to be visiting houses for quotes. Thanks again for your help too!
