Joint Account (Savings) Recommendation

If anyone is looking to open a joint savings account with minimum effort, I'd like to recommend NS&I Direct Saver. I know interest rates are horrible right now but we needed a joint account to keep around £1500 separate for annual household bills.

Our current accounts are with Lloyds so initially I opened a savings account with them and tweeted them to ask how to make it joint. They said if I messaged them through the app, they would send a pack to sign. So I messaged the app and they said we would need to phone. So I phoned and they said we would need to go into a branch with ID. Given the current climate, we didn't want to do that so I looked around for an alternative and came across NS&I Direct Saver.

We already have premium bonds with them so already have accounts. Therefore, if you don't already have accounts with them, it may take a little more effort but obviously that won't include physically having to go somewhere with ID - but if you do already have accounts, everything was already filled out so a few clicks and you're done. 👍

That's a savings account, not a current account...

I never said it was a current account but I'll edit my original post to make the fact it's a savings account more obvious.

Most savings accounts can be held in joint names, and applying for them doesn't involve credit checks, which current accounts do. Recommending an account which will pay 0.15% AER is not very MSE, not even when interest rates are generally in the doldrums. Anyway, savings accounts are a subject for the Savings & Investments board.

If you want a joint current account, you could try Starling or Monzo, who will definitely not ask you to appear in person as they don't have any Branches.

Apart from also posting in the Bank Account forum rather than the Savings one...
And 0.15% isn't anything to write home about.
