Money sent to wrong account

They have no money to pay me back.
It's either get it back from the Halifax or lose it.

In which case you'll need to accept that you've lost it - if you look at it from Halifax's perspective, they lent your friend (?) some money and you effectively repaid that, so it's no longer a case of getting it 'back' from Halifax as they don't owe you anything....Namechanger said:They have no money to pay me back.

If my friend owes them money that is between them and the Halifax.
Why can't they just return the money to me so they are back to the original position?
They should not be keeping my money to pay somebody else's debt surely ?

You sent them the money. They are refusing to pay it back to you. It is not Halifax's problem. It's between you and your friend. Perhaps, if your friend doesn't have the readies, they could reimburse you by providing services to you? Cutting grass, washing car, paint your house etc etc etc? Or you could take your friend to Court, who will sort something for you.
You could also file a complaint with the Halifax though that's unlikely to change their stance. The FOS are also unlikely to support your claim. Though only one way to find out.1 -
But effectively you gave your friend the money and they used it to pay Halifax, albeit inadvertently.Namechanger said:If my friend owes them money that is between them and the Halifax. They should not be keeping my money to pay somebody else's debt surely ?
They could but they're saying they won't, because they're not obliged to. They're not interested in returning to the original position, because that was an unauthorised debt.Namechanger said:Why can't they just return the money to me so they are back to the original position?0 -
Is the Halifax your bank, the recipient's bank or both?Namechanger said:If my friend owes them money that is between them and the Halifax.

How much is the sum of money, roughly e.g. less than a hundred, a few hundred, more than that?0 -
If I am dealing with large amounts I always send a small payment first to verify the details and check with the recipient,
not trying to be clever after the event, just offering a tip.0 -

£250.
I sent it from Santander to the Halifax although I do have an account myself at the Halifax as well, could that possibly work in my favour, me being a customer of theirs ?

I would normally but was in a real hurry, was doing an offer on the Grand National and it had to be done by Midday and it was like 11.50 a.m.

If you choose to file a complaint with Santander or Halifax, I would recommend you don't mention that you were in a hurry to place a bet, or that the non-cooperating recipient is a friend of yours.Namechanger said:lisyloo said:If I am dealing with large amounts I always send a small payment first to verify the details and check with the recipient,
