Hello
My cars MOT was extended to Jan21 after the lockdown, however i didn't want to put it back in just before xmas and is booked in on tuesday,
and if rumours are true, we'll be back in full lockdown on thursday, should it go in and fail, and i can't get the repairs done will i need to take my car off the road?
if so, it'd make sense for me to remain legal, though not safe if they find a major fault by cancelling the MOT next week, which does seems daft?

Boris is due to make an announcement when the rugby match finishes.Make your mind up then, it is leaked to be for only a month. But remember, the next MOT will start & end on the date of the test, the "test upto a month before and preserve the date" doesn't apply to the extended onesI want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....
(except air quality and Medical Science)

Ask if they will do a quick pre MOT check before doing the MOT. Prior to that you can check the lights, tyres etc before even turning up. You will also know if there are any funny suspension rattles etc that may cause issues.
If you don't do it now they may be booked out when restrictions are lifted.
If the car isn't roadworthy is shouldn't be on the road anyway regardless of MOT0 -
i'm no mechanic so can't find anything that could be dangerous, the obvious visible parts like tyres bulbs etc are fine, but who knows on other parts ?
i'll ask about a pre check......after the rugby!0 -

BUT... if the test has been extended by 6mo because of the original covid lockdown, then a fail DOES instantly invalidate that extension.
BUT... regardless of test, if it's unroadworthy, it's illegal to drive TO that test... or to work, or home, or to the supermarket...0
