I went into my local Tesco today for a couple of things I needed.
I walked straight in and out with no problems apart from a slight wait at the self scan tills.
When I can out they were using the traffic light system and it was on red and people were waiting halfway round the car park.
I have not seen so many people waiting for months.
What is going on?

Tesco doing lots right, so customers returning, same at my local Tesco. The prices have been lowered and the offers including Clubcard deals add interest and attract shoppers.

Perhaps it was a particular time of day, maybe the rain had stopped, maybe the whole area had run out of salad cream at the same time, who knows?

Maybe people had read/seen/heard news reports today & were preparing for "lockdown" to be imposed in the next few days.

OH No not another panic buying episode - don't the public ever learn
There were no shortages last time, just that shops could restock quickly enough because the public buying up more than they needed.

I work for an essential shop, not a supermarket. Customers said to me that Tesco 1.5 miles away and Aldi 8 mins walk away were being stripped out with pasta, flour and loo roll.

My work does sell these, as well as cleaning materials, some medications, toiletries and other food. I am dreading the next four days as some idiots will think its only four days before ALL the shops will close.

I wish we could shout at customers we aren't going to close, stop being selfish etc. It's putting my health at risk as being asthmatic.

  • Anyone else noticed that suddenly all the online shopping slots are now very few and far between ? Tesco click & collect local store all gone for 3 weeks.
Asda had no delivery slots for 2 weeks & Tesco 3 weeks when I looked about an hour ago. Sainsbury's were offline, but earlier in the evening their next delivery slot was 4 days away & what I called the "graveyard slot" of 10pm & 6am & 7am "earlybird slots" have disappeared off the chart which is a shame as they were usually free. I wonder if it because it is November or because Sainsbury's what to charge more during England Lockdown 2?
Fortuantely a friend & I between us have managed to get some click n collects for Nov at Asda & Tesco (before all went).
Ironically a couple of weeks ago got 4 x 3kgs of bread flour off of Amazon at price compatible with supermarkets & loo roll too so no panic here!

I have just booked Tesco for this Thursday and next Thursday with no problems, I guess its area dependant?

  • I can book a Waitrose slot for delivery tomorrow, but my friend in Maidenhead can’t see any slots for the next 2 weeks so very much area specific.

Yes must be area dependent and possibly vary according to browser/device used as on my mobile the "graveyard" and "early bird" Sainsbury's slots are showing up but on pc  they do not, as in the hours are not showing on the charts, not as in booked slots. One of those browser quirks I figure!
