This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Still dark, blustery too but not raining at the moment.
DH watching catchup tv, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here. DS1 still in his pit. DS2 settled and happy. I'm working this morning.
Dinner last night was breaded chicken, chips, beans and mushrooms for the menfolk, I had fishcakes and veg.
Not sure what we'll be having tonight have plenty in the fridge, so will be able to make something.
I got everything done I wanted to get done yesterday,
Keep safe and well x

Morning Nmic another one up early DS is getting ready to go to work and makes enough noise to wake the dead . I didn't post yesterday as i had nothing to say still no results so DH and I are just going to have to quarrentine till next thursday I am so angry they tell us to do the test and then just leave you hanging i could do the test again despite no symptoms but i would have to start the 14 day quarantine again so that's not going to happen looks like we will come out of it and straight into national lockdown if the press is to be believed we are tier 1 at the moment right rant over .
DH and I will carry on the decorating and just get on as best we can we are luckier than most i just miss my mum . Dinner tonight BBQ chicken wings, pizza and hot dogs can you tell we are trying to clear the freezer . I wonder if we will get any trick or treaters i do have some sweets for them but i am hoping we don't have too many .
Right enough waffle from me have a good day whatever you are up to xxSlava Ukraini13 -
Morning
bellabella That's frustrating, is this what everyone has to put with when they have a test? No wonder people are peed off. It's one thing to have to isolate if you're positive, quite another to be left hanging with no info whatsoever.
Our walks lately have been drizzly and windy. This is actually a good thing, it means there are no cats about. Shame it's so wet out there, there's loads of leaves on the floor and I like to kick them about as we're walking along, the effect just isn't the same when they're soggy and all stuck together, lol.
I've almost finished cutting up those branches, just need to find some loppers for a few thicker bits. We have some buried in the shed somewhere. Also need to sweep all the bits off the patio. I have a couple of other jobs I'd like to do outside but the weather is bad again so I'll only go out there if it stops raining. I might make a start on crocheting a cushion cover, I need to replace a well-worn one I made a few years ago. I know which pattern I want to do, I just can't decide on colours.
Mr tru has been told he's pre-diabetic and was given an appointment with the diabetic nurse. At the beginning of the appointment, he was told what he could eat – this included lentils. At the end, a list of no-nos – this included lentils. He can also eat as much cheese as he likes – as long as it's no more than matchbox-sized. I studied the info sheets she gave him and told him he's only allowed to eat meat, eggs, walnuts and a sliver of cheese for the rest of his life, lol. He spoke to three friends who are diabetic (one type 1 and two type 2), their docs/nurses have a much more sensible approach and their blood test results are always in the healthy range. So he's following their advice instead.

Morning folks and thanks NMLC. A bit of a drab start here but at least it's not raining - yet!! That pleasure is due mid morning. But it still feels quite mild. I had a better sleep last night thankfully, just not long enough thanks to this pesky cat!
So it's Groundhog Saturday here. I shall get the 8.45 bus to town, along with the other 2 ladies that are Saturday regulars. A quick whizz round my usual ports of call and back up on the 9.40 bus. If this rumoured total lockdown does happen there are bits I want to have a stock of! I might just cry if H & B are still oos of liquorice tea as I am getting serious withdrawal symptoms!
Then back home and the same old same old. But I do have the excitement of my Tesco delivery this afternoon and then there is Strictly to look forward to tonight so not all bad! In between I must do a bit more C online shopping. Two more orders arrived yesterday so the stash is growing bit by bit. I am being tempted by some lovely stuff in the Lakeland gift catalogue for DS and his DP for joint pressies. A few stocking fillers for them stashed away already.
Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) for all in need of them. Take care and stay safe and sane xx. .

Morning all, thanks for starting nmlcI'm up & about early as DS1 has to take his car to a garage in another town and I didnt want the hound waking everyone else up. Let her out for a wee and she's settled down again, I'm not taking her out yet.Bellabella, it seems ridiculous you haven't had the results after so long
...knocking on doors for trick or treating is not allowed here(T3) but a lot of people have decorated their houses so that if the children spot a pumpkin they can have a treat from their parents instead.
I started making my Christmas cards yesterday, at least it gives me something to do! I have a couple of birthday cards to make too. DS gave me a lift to Hobby craft yesterday & I got some more card blanks. The die I'm using (deer in a forest)means the background paper shows through so I'm trying watercolours DS bought for the DGC and have never used.Early results look promisingI think tea tonight might be lasagne, I've got all the ingredients and can do an extra one for the freezer.Bye for now, have the best day you can:heartsmil 'A woman is like a teabag: You never know her strength until you drop her in hot water'. Morning all
We made it, we're in the marina, the fuel boat arrived yesterday morning he was going back to base to restock. We bought four bags of coal and filled up with diesel, £100 in total. We locked six hire boats through Padworth lock so there was room for us to pass. Then went through the swing bridge, got into the next lock, I was about to close the gate when I noticed another boat approaching the bridge so we waited for them. Aldermaston lock is one of the few locks big enough for us to share with another boat.
We let them go first as they are trying to get through before the winter stoppages come in to force and are travelling from 6am until it gets dark. We arrived in the marina and got a pump out, £20 and then moored up in our place. We closed the front and back covers by which time Beano was getting impatient, I let him out and he checked out the entire marina to see which of his friends are still here.
I then made sandwiches for lunch, after I'd eaten I walked back to get my car and the did some shopping. The immersion heater is on so I shall have , shower after I've walked Beano. I shall strip the bed, do a couple of loads of washing on a hot wash as we have shore power and sweep and mop the floor.
I've waffled on long enough.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs Hester

Good morning, dull, damp, and leaf strewn here. Leaves are everywhere. Thanks for the start NMLC.Mr Tru's proposed diet sounds a bit limited Tru! I was told at the beginning of the year I was pre diabetic, thyroid was on the verge of going underactive, and to have another blood test in April, they said the results of that were normal, so I'll have another test in December, heaven knows what that will show, Hope Mr Tru will be ok anyway. We are waiting in for the new kitchen appliances today - I'm waiting for a text that will give me a 4 hour delivery window. I went for free delivery (very MSE)We had a lovely, if muddy, walk yesterday along the riverbank, it was sunny and mild, so quite a few people out. It does me good to go for a longish walk, I always feel better afterwards.Last night I finished my great niece's birthday card - I'd done one the day before but when I looked at it yesterday it looked gaudy and childish I thought, so i've done another one.Hope everyone has a good Saturday- take care folks15

Morning All
I've been up since silly o'clock but took a cup of tea back to bed and did some puzzles, I may have a nana nap later! The wind is blowing and the rain is falling, lovely weekend weather.
How annoying bella, can you chase them up?
HH - that all sounds like hard work!
As I now have a free weekend I'm going to sort out the christmas presents I've got, I'm not wrapping this year, I've made bags for them all to go in which can be re-used, trying to do my bit for the environment.
Last night's tea was crisps and chocolate with a glass of wine, first time I've had an alcoholic drink for months.
Have a good weekend, take care. XX14 -
Morning folks.Yesterday turned into a beautiful autumn day once the rain stopped. Today isn't looking so good.DM sat by the window doing a drawing and the using charcoal to enhance it. She's enjoying getting back into her creative side and now talking about doing more painting again. This morning it's the usual shopping trip and taking an order back to Marks. I also need to do another tip trip - I found a stinking bag of homegrown potatoes given to me ages ago. Not only were they rotting they had remnants of horse manure which was really the stinking part! 😆 The bag is double wrapped and ready for the tip.I'm looking forward to Strictly though I'm really off ST2, far too much screeching and talking over each other, drives me crazy. It's lovely to wake up and read everyone's plans, hope everyone keeps safe.Happy Saturday to all.15

Good morning, it is very blustery and wet, leaves everywhere, which is a bit if a shame as I sent hours raking them up and bagging them yesterday. I did know that more would fall, I just didn't expect quite so many in less than 24 hours. I will wait a few days to do the next lit but will sweep the path and the flagstones to prevent it being all slippery. Did a lot of other stuff too but so boring that not worth writing about. Boring to others, less so to me.
Today I will do the finishing on a baby jumper, start a hat to match and if I finish that, make tiny boots as well.
Last night's dinner was chicken winglets and salad, I was too tired to manage more than two tiny pieces and I should have eaten properly because I was hungry after an hour. Went to bed with a book and although I woke several times, I think I got quite a lot of sleep for a change.
Bellabella that is so frustrating for you but at least not long to wait now.
Tru, what a restrictive diet, no veg or salad?
Gers, do you know anyone with a compost heap? I'd love stinky potatoes and a bit of manure in mine. I got just one repellent stinky potato in a bag last week and it went straight in the compost bin, luckily it was just one and had not contaminated the rest.
I could do with a bit of a walk, I am quite active in the house and garden but want to be out in a different way but possibly not in this wind and rain.
We are heading for tier 3 here but I've just seen online that a national lockdown is a real possibility. Although that is not likely to make a huge difference to my day to day life, I may go out next week before it happens if I can get an appointment for the optician to fit new nosepads on my specs as the side where one has fallen off is irritating my skin. Last time this happened I tried improvising temporarily with a bit of blutack, if this ever happens to you and you have sensitive skin, do not do this.
I think I'm going to have to wash hand towels in the machine and deal with the resultant deluge. We have what I thought was plenty but very few clean ones are left and handwashing is not really enough.
Must stop waffling on, hope everyone has a good day.
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back14 -
Morning
AOD same here with the leaves the wind is vicious so no point getting rid Ill be leaving the clear up to nature
Bella Hope you get the result soon the time you've waited is shocking
Usual Saturday here. Food has just arrived and all present and correct apart from a pack of pigs in blankets which managed to escape from the packaging on the journey so sadly didnt surviveThe driver asked if I wanted a couple to remember them by (
) but I let them go I think it was for the best. Anyway I now have a turkey crown and pork joint sorted for Christmas so shopping costs can go back to normal again for a while. With a national lockdown on the cards then the supermarkets may have issues so at least I won't starve
Rest of the day is fairly free. Dishwasher needs emptying and I have a care call but nothing much else. Lasagne and garlic bread for dinner
Have a great day all11
