Smart meter question
Hi, i have tried searching for this but found nothing, this is the only place i can think to ask.
i have a smart meter for my electric supply, this was fitted several suppliers ago. i have just recently changed again and noticed that my consumption has risen to more than usual, (there could be other explanation for this, but not found yet). my question is, is it possible for a supplier to control or change the way the meter measures energy usage?

Your meter will now be in dumb mode and your supplier will be relying on you to submit meter readings. In their absence the supplier will be guessing. Read that meter.

No. Suppliers have no controls that allow them to adjust the metering side of any meter. When you say consumption, I assume that we are talking kWhs and not £s?0

Being at home during lockdowns could account for extra usage.0

How are you measuring consumption, is it from bills or on the In Home Display? If its on your bill does the latest read on the bill match the read on your meter?
It sounds like you've had your meter for a few years. If that is the case then it is probably a SMETS1 meter and will in all likelihood gone into dumb mode when you switched supplier. If this is the case you need to supply reads to your supplier until the meter is enrolled into the DCC (this will make it start submitting reads again).
The enrolment process it done remotely so no need to have an engineer out. if the remote enrolment isn't successful then your supplier will be in touch to arrange swapping it over to a SMETS2 meter at some point (probably towards the back end of next year).0
