Debited money in account

I am wanting some advise if possible. Last month I had a significant sum of money deposited into my account from what shows as HMRC. I have received no correspondence that I am due this money. I have contacted my bank, the HMRC and the 2 companies that do deposit into that account. Everyone has been very helpful, however, say it is not from then and cannot tell me where it would be from. 

I am struggling to identify a) if the money is intended for me and b) (most likely) if it isn’t, to notify someone of this error. 

Please can anyone offer any advise on how to rectify this matter.

You have done all that can reasonably be expected. In due course someone will notice that their money is missing and you will eventually be contacted, probably by your bank. In the meantime I suggest you shift the money into an interest-bearing account and get on with your life.
