Under bed storage - divan bed?

Beyond hoover bags i don't really know what's out there on the market. I eBay'd underbed storage but it was throwing up ideas for clearly non-divans.

Currently we have a mixture of a) just thrown in and b) hoover bags, which are pretty crap as they allow air in in no time at all really.

Aside from plastic boxes is there anything else suitable really? Just trying to keep things a bit more organised.

Have you ever thought of an Ottoman bed which has built in storage.

As above, your options are basically underbed drawer/boxes for bed frames, divans with drawers or ottoman beds.

Bought my daughter the ottoman bed from ikea, absolutely loads of storage and it's very deep.  I didn't think I would be impressed but I am.
We have a kingsize divan with four drawers, you cant store much in them.

My divan base is old and I needed storage so I cut the fabric out at the end of the bed and on one side at the top (base is constructed in 2 halves). Sort of like a window in the side of the base, then stapled the fabric edge to the wooden frame. I keep bedding, blankets, etc in zip bags inside the base, with a valance over it you can't see it and there's tons of space in there.

  • Hmm i'm wondering if i've used the proper term here.

I just Googled ottoman bed and saw images of where the mattress bit flips from toe to head revealing storage underneath.
Ours doesn't do that - it flips from one side to the other revealing the storage underneath.

I presume then that it's still an ottoman (and not a divan) just that the hinges are in a different location.

What i want really is the storage area underneath to have some sort of organisation and not just stuff thrown in. Protection from dust and the like. As i said, hoover bags are pretty abysmal (unless any actually exist that don't leak air inside? We've bought cheap and not as cheap - both poor). I'd rather not have big plastic boxes but like i say, i wasn't sure if those are my 2 only options. I didn't know if there's something else on the market that i hadn't been aware of.

It's still an Ottoman. Our first opened that way.  I don't use anything and don't find things get dusty.
