Anti mould paint

In my bathroom we have a problem with mould, would cleaning it with bleach and using anti mould paint help? We do have an extractor fan but it does not seem to prevent it.
Any other ideas?

What kind of fan do you have, when does it run? Does it have a humidistat? Are the walls insulated? Paint won't make the moist air go away. Otherwise, open the window to let the room vent for a bit during/after a shower.1

Bleach will get rid of it, but it will come back.
I had a similar problem in my (windowless) shower room and I'd advise bleaching, then undercoating with Zinsser BIN stain stop, then repainting in Zinsser Permawhite mould resistant paint - I did this 5.5years ago and the mould hasn't returned.
We also changed the fan to another Vent Axia with a higher extraction rate and a humidstat in February this year - this has also made a big difference to the general humidity in the flat so I'd suggest doing that as well.

Thanks for that - where did you get the mould resistant paint from?Emmia said:Bleach will get rid of it, but it will come back.

You can get paint from any decent decorators merchant, some sell ( even Travis Perkins sells it ) anti mould additive that can be used in any water based paint ( or grout ) . Read the rest of there Emma's post - the most important bit I can see is that they changed extractor fan for higher rated one. Anti mould paint helps , but does not take away humidity. Ventilation or extraction is needed for that. You can use bleach and anti mould paint , with no ventilation, mould will come back ( it might take couple of months longer but it will come back ).1

Zinnser paint is sold by Screwfix, B&Q, Dulux Decorator Centres, amongst many others. Just google it.Thomas_Holding said:

I bought it from screwfix, but B&Q Wickes, Homebase etc probably all sell it too.Thomas_Holding said:

Good point - thanks for a lot for that. I hadn't noticed that.floppydisk1 said:You can get paint from any decent decorators merchant, some sell ( even Travis Perkins sells it ) anti mould additive that can be used in any water based paint ( or grout ) . One thing I forgot to ask does cat litter help? I have heard putting some in a sock can help.0

The paint went in and cured the bathroom mould 4.5 years before we changed the fan - the 15% drop in general flat humidity was the main benefit of the fan change.floppydisk1 said:You can get paint from any decent decorators merchant, some sell ( even Travis Perkins sells it ) anti mould additive that can be used in any water based paint ( or grout ) . If I was dealing with the issue again, it would be both fan and paint.0 -
It may absorb some moisture, but I'm really not sure it will be of much help in a bathroom which is an inherently moist environment - it would probably help in a wardrobe though.Thomas_Holding said:One thing I forgot to ask does cat litter help? I have heard putting some in a sock can help.1
