O2 shares

Options
Hi

I have worked for BT for over 30 years and around 20 years ago we were given free O2 shares. Since then O2 have changed to Telefonica and the shares I had have disappeared from my share statement which is managed by Equiniti. I have contacted them to try and trace my missing O2 shares, they directed me to Companies house who also say they can’t help me trace them.

So I am trying to find out who I can contact to help me trace these shares so I can arrange to cash them in.

Any help or advise you can give would be appreciated

Thanks

  • This will be of no use to you i'm sure but it reminds me of a situation my parents found themselves in.

I forget the company. Northern Rock, Norwich Union, i really can't remember now. My parents had shares, they could've actually had shares in both - we're going back a while and my memory is hazy with the details. I just remember they had shares in a couple companies for whatever reason.

They cashed 1 lot of shares in with 1 company but held on to the other lot. The company was taken over / ceased to exist and story short they ended up losing their shares. Game over. They should've cashed in sooner but their crystal ball was broken.

Assuming you owned them still - there was a prior event where mmO2 became O2 and there was an opportunity to take a cash offer - Telefonica's acquisition of O2 was all cash so you will have received 200p per share at the time of of acquisition in 2006:

    "Compulsory Acquisition
Given that sufficient acceptances have now been received (or other relevant
acquisitions have now been made), Telefonica announces its intention to
implement the procedures set out in sections 428 to 430F of the Companies Act to
acquire compulsorily the remaining O2 Shares for which it has not received
    acceptances of the Offer."

Agreed - I was in the same position and I still have a load of documentation from 2006. As I recall it, I received a payment then and that was the end of my holding.
