Avro Energy taking money after final bill

Hi all. So I was with Avro energy and swapped supplier to someone else in August. You can never get through on the phone as they are such a small operation seemingly, and using COVID as an excuse not to answer any calls, no matter what option you choose. I had my final bill for £75.90 which came out on 17/10. I never cancelled the DD as I knew not to until all settled. However I’ve just checked my bank this morning, and another £75.90 is going out on Monday 2/11. I can’t cancel it as already in the system. My normal payments to them were £85.75, and this £75.90 was only generated by them as a final payment out on 17/10? I’ve sent them a mail already demanding it refunded ASAP as I don’t owe them anything after the final bill. They have obviously requested it again through DD. If I can’t contact them direct, what are my options in getting it back? If I cancel the DD now, they won’t be able to refund that way? Can I take it further with the regulator? How can they take money that’s not owed? Isn’t that theft?

The bank can recall it under the Direct Debit Guarantee, speak to your bank next week but you will have to watch the money go out first, sadly. As you say, too late to stop it now.

Obviously be 100% sure that the £75.90 did actually come out 2 weeks ago before you do this.
