PayPal direct debit

Hi,
I have just seen I have a PayPal direct debit coming out of £13,98 each month coming out starting from September, which I have no clue why or what for. My bank account linked to it. Is not my everyday account, so not something I have picked up on til now. I’m so confused about what it is. Am I ok to cancel this from my bank side? Has anyone else had the same? Thanks

  • If you log onto your Paypal account you can see what recurring and other payments you have signed up to. You can then de-authorise (cancel) from the Paypal end. You can also cancel the DD at Starling.

Note that if you have genuinely signed up to something you will be subject to their T&C which may involve a cancellation penalty. If it is something you don't recognise you can ask Paypal (not you bank) for a refund of the payments.

If your sure you dont recognise it then yes cancel it but speak to your bank as well.
The bank might ask how you didnt notice it earlier.
    Change your PP password too.
  • Have you purchased something online, using your PayPal account, and inadvertently signed up to a subscription in the process?

As others have said, your PayPal account should tell you where the payment is being directed.
  • Thank you. I have had a look and can’t see anything. I will see what happens this month.

I don’t understand why you are waiting? Surely if you have something coming out every month you don’t recognise you would want to sort it out, how many more  £13.98 payments are you going to let go through?

  • I agree with the posts above - if you don't recognise it get in touch ASAP to stop it. Contact PayPal to get more info on what the payment is. If you've signed up for a subscription of some kind, then stopping the payment won't automatically cancel your service so you may still owe money but if it is fraudulent you want to get on top of it sooner rather than later. Changing your PayPal security info is probably a good idea too, just in case.

Has the money gone out of your bank for a second month ie in October?
Was the first £13.98 in Sept for a one off purchase?

It is normal for Paypal to show in your direct debits if you have used direct debit as a payment method but sometimes the bank will interpret it as a regular payment when in fact it is just adhoc.

I do have recurring payments in Paypal for subscriptions but these don't show as individual direct debits in my bank account.

The reason I ask is that my bank account shows an active direct debit for Paypal but nothing comes out unless I make a purchase. More alarmingly mine says daily direct debit but nothing is taken unless I make an actual payment:

This is my last ad-hoc payment to Paypal (not recurring) and this is normal:
