I'm in the same boat.. If ours goes I'm jobless

    My DH would be too.

He works nights, somewhere that isn't near a bus route

I'd be OK, I only work 10 minutes away.
Is it better to aim for the stars and hit a tree or aim for a tree and land in its branches

Yeah I'm out of the bus route also in the back of beyond, so just hope it hangs in there

  • I'm really fed up, Saw a TV I liked at £299
what a waste of money! my current tv was free and it works fine, people give away old tvs that work ok, because they 'need' the latest one

I can't save money, never have been able to, I live from one weeks pay to the next

probably a good thing that you cant get credit to waste on overpriced tat then

Why have you high fees on your bank account? There shouldn't be any on a bog standard one - do you mean bank charges - ie going overdrawn? If so, start looking at getting them back. The whole bank charges thing is on hold for a while but you might as well start the ball rolling.

If you bank are charging you for any 'perks' (ie like the Nat West Gold Account) ask them to change you to a bod standard account.

    I don't have any debt.

I have a portable TV that I got for £50 from Lidl.

    It's a TV. There's no debt.
That makes it the BEST TV in the whole world to me!

Have to say I agree pasturesnew. I have a non-widescreen, non-freeview built in, non LCD TV (ok it's silver, but it's silver coloured plastic) that I got for £130 from Macro just over 3 years ago. Like I said earlier , an almost identical one was being sold for £110 a few months back in Asda. It's a TV - it is just as good as the posh ones!

My OH is desparate for a 42 inch flat screen etc etc etc and I keep telling him that unless he wants to watch it from the house across the street he won't get the full benefit of it because of the size and depth of field etc but he always says 'ah but the football is better on it'...............rrrrrrrrrrrrrriiiiiiiiiiigggggggghhhhhhhhttttttttt.........I told him last night to look at the painting on the wall for the next 2 hours and if his neck didn't ache from looking up all night from 12 feet away then yes, maybe he was right and a wall mounted 42 inch TV would be superb for the football........:rotfl:

We have a fantastic British Heart Foundation charity furniture shop near us.
It sells all manner of very good condition donated furniture, including TVs.
perhaps there's one near you too???

Ha ha! We have a big LCD TV (Bought with OH's bonus, no debt I promise!) and recently put it on the wall to babyproof against impending rugrat... I now have to sit on the furthest sofa, sometimes lying down to avoid neckache.

Mind you, probably good for me coming up to Maternity leave as I wont spend the day watching TV as it is too uncomfortable!

OP - In my opinion, if you think that you can afford the repayments, then save that money every month for a year and see what is on the market then that you can affors to buy outright - the prices come down all the time anyway. Ok, its easy for me to say, I have a TV, but I don't have a posh watch and I want one, and so am saving for one.
