Conveyancer/Solicitor Recommendations for Buying House?

Hi all,
I keep seeing nightmare stories of conveyances/solicitors to avoid, with all of them seemingly having someone complaining about poor communication/slow service/incompetence. So I was wondering if anyone had recommendations for actually good conveyances or solicitors?
This is for buying a house - first-time buyers, buying direct from the landlord, nothing too complicated about any of it. Obviously, I'd like as cheap as I can get, but I'm trying to balance that with getting someone good.
Happy to answer any questions you might have if it helps with the recs. Thanks for your help!

Speak to family and work colleagues. Personal recommendations of a local firm are often the best source. "Cheap" is unlikely to save you much. With the frustrations that housing transactions cause. A good solicitor firm is worth employing.

    Agreed with the above.
I can only suggest places to avoid: Blacks in Leeds and PCS Legal.

Nobody can say whether there is anything complicated about a transaction until it starts. It may turn out to be complicated, better to have a good solicitor than a cheap one.
