Does anyone know the best agency to go to for council tax advice? I’ve had several different bills in the same year and I’m still no nearer resolving the issues.

for most people their council tax liability should be a simple issue of reading the rules and applying them to themselves.
if, as appears to be the case, you are in dispute with the council, then contact Citizens Advice Bureau as they should have people used to negotiating on behalf of others

on the other hand, if your dispute is over technicalities, then a search on the MSE forum will flag up an obvious contact who deals with council tax for fee paying customers
I wonder if CIS will see this post....0 -

If you want advice then state the problem? Simples! The world is not ruined by the wickedness of the wicked, but by the weakness of the good. Napoleon1 -
Bills usually get re-issued based on the payments received/missed, or changes to frequency.eg payments are often calculated based on 10 x monthly payments and then 2 'free' months at the end (Feb, March). Or might be 12 x monthly payments, or whatever. But however payments have been arranged, or received/missed, the total for the year generally remains the same, unless for example you apply for a discount (single person etc) half-way through.So. Is the issue the total being charged, or the way it's being deducted from direct debits (or whatever)?0

I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.0 -
Look like you'll have to write another post on this thread, Polly, if you want clear advice.
Otherwise, free advice from your local Citizens Advice Bureau is your way to go. Good luck.0
