Transfer BT shares out of Shareview/Equiniti

Hello

I hold around 2000 BT shares with Shareview administered by Equiniti.

My online account shows 1635 are held as BT Group Plc Ordinary shares of 5p.  I have a share certificate for this number of shares which I assume is still valid.

It also shows 450 BT Group Plc Easyshare Ord. shares held in a Corporate Sponsored Nominee Account.  I do not hold a share certificate for this which I assume is correct.

I apologise in advance as I know very little about the process of holding, buying or selling shares.  I realise my timing is not ideal but a may need to sell some quite soon.  It has been suggested to me that selling via Shareview.co.uk is expensive and a cheaper alternative is via X-O.co.uk, which online says £5.95 per trade.

So, can I transfer all these shares to X-O.co.uk ?

Is there a better/cheaper alternative ?

Would Sharesave charge me a transfer fee ?

Apologies again, but many thanks for any replies.

I presume the sghares are in Easyshare. If so, there is no charge to transfer out within 90 days of the shares been placed in Easyshare. After that there is a £10 charge.
  • Just been through similar - Equiniti Shareview is the administrator for BT shareholder management & can be expensive to trade through.
For the 1635 shares - best approach would be to set up a trading account elsewhere, I used iWeb (£25 set up & £5 per trade) then transfer the paper shares in. Basically fill in an iWeb form and attach the share certificates for the 1635 shares. This was pretty quick (1 week) .. you can then trade through your account.

For the residual 450 you then fill in another iWeb transfer request .. plus Equiniti insist on a Crest form .. get that from Equiniti. Equiniti then charge (£10 I think) to transfer out. This can take 28 days to transfer & Equiniti make it painfully difficult.

Alternatively you can call & trade through Equiniti .. send them your certificates & get the cash .. but that is what they want you to do & operate in a way that no doubt makes many take the easy route.
