Unemployed? Check your car insurance!!

I had always thought the comp insurance automatically covered you to drive other vehicles, just as well to know that isn't true. A few years ago my next door neighbour drove himself to hospital when he was feeling unwell but was kept in. His wife called me to ask if I would drive his car home and I did so without a second thought. He may have been insured for any driver but I doubt that. Just as well I wasn't stopped as I have no idea if I was, or am, covered. I'll check when the new policy documents come through.

I like having to it maintain flexibility. I've used it a few times over the years - for example driving someone else's car back when they've drunk too much (although it is rare for me not to be the one drinking!) or driving a girlfriend's car on a longer journey.0
