How long before move should I tell utilities that I am moving?

Plan to move end of next month (still waiting for references to be ok'd though at new place) so when should I inform the gas/elec/council tax of the move?
Also if I got the reading today as of 29/10/20 is there any need to get it on move out day since it is only a few days? I mean if I didn't get round to it then it wouldn't be a big deal?

Let your utilities providers know the exact date you'll be moving. You should take meter readings and give them to the supplier as of this date.  Remember to tell the council for council tax too if you're moving out of the area they cover (may vary if you're moving within the same authority)
  • Hi,
and take readings at new place.
  • Do it on the day or within 10 days of moving out.

No need to tell them at all before you actually move. Just give them readings for the day you move out, and tell them you've left.
Indecision is the key to flexibility :)

If you include phone/broadband as a utility, tell them as soon as you’ve booked the removal van. Many require 30 days notice of contract termination and may apply early termination charges. It also varies depending on whether you propose a new contract with same provider at new address. Process is quite different from energy companies.
