This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Still dark, dry but air is cool.
DH getting ready for work, as is DS1, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here. DS2 settled and happy.
Dinner last night was LO pork, mash, yorkshires, I added some veg and gravy - all eaten. Tonight will be the remaining lasagne and chips.
Yesterday work was steady, now on days' off until Saturday then I have a day off on Monday too.
I'm going for my spa day this morning - looking forward to that.
Keep safe and well x

Morning:D
Enjoy your spa day nmlc x
Not much going on here, I've just plodded through the week. I'm enjoying the cosy afternoons indoors while the weather is wet and windy but I would like a couple of dry days so I can get on with tidying the garden. I'm halfway through chopping up a load of branches from the overgrown california lilac (mr tru 'pruned' it, I think he's taken too much off and probably killed it!). I also need to sort out a large pot so I can take a cutting from the other bush and grow another one, lol. Lots of general tidying to do too.
The chicken run needs a good sort out, it always gets a bit muddy this time of year but is easily manageable. But at the moment, the girls will be swimming rather than walking if it gets any worse, lol.
The shopping is coming at lunchtime so I'll walk Scamp and get the housework done before it arrives. I might spend the afternoon messing around in my craft room – my Craft Room! Yes it's finally finished!!

Morning all
Thanks for the thread Nmlc and hugs to all those in need.
I'm glad your craft room if finished tru.
Steve will take the rotary line down today, we will move into the marina either tomorrow or Saturday depending on the weather. It may be the last time we winter in the marina this year. We may try to stay out on the cut next year.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs HesterChin up, Titus out.12 -
Morning folks and thanks NMLC. Enjoy the spa. It's milder here today but the price to pay for that is that it's going to be wetter!
Yesterday was blooming hard work lugging furniture around. The hardest job was maneuvering the heavy bookcase in from the hall and loading it back up again. A few books were left behind for the cs bag so that lightened the load a bit. The coffee table took it's place in the hall and the ottoman thing replaced under the front window. It all looks much better and the lamps have been rearranged too. If I ever mention lugging furniture around again will you please remind me what hard work this was and how old I am!!
As expected the phone call from the pharmacist at the surgery was an utter waste of time. He was on and back off again in less than 2 minutes and said he had updated my meds until next year. He reminded me I am due a blood test and I said considering I would need to catch 2 buses to get there and 2 buses back (and brave a busy phlebotomy clinic as well) I am not happy to do that under the circumstances. Just go when it feels safe then was his response.
Today I have promised myself an easier day than yesterday! I'll clean the kitchen and bathroom this morning and then enjoy a lazy feet up afternoon reading. Lunch, as usual, will be hm soup and a sarnie of some sort and I have christened my easy tea already as I quite fancy a jacket spud with tuna mayo and some salad. I'll cook a few spuds at the same time and they can then go in the freezer for another time.
Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) for all in need of them. BELLA the wait you are having for your result is disgusting. DD has a test every Monday at the resource centre where she works and usually gets the result the next day or, at the most, the day after that. Whether theirs are rushed through because of where she works I don't know. Take care and stay safe and sane folks. xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"13 -
Morning folks.Enjoy your spa time NMLC, soak it up.TRU - a dedicated craft room sounds fab!
The breakfast date was so lovely again. It really is my salvation these days. 😀
Today we have an amber weather warning all day for torrential rain ☹️ certainly there was heavy rain at 3.00a.m. when I woke for a comfort break. The cleaner is due this morning but we've discussed her coming tomorrow instead. She gets a lift to and from her proper job though when coming here she takes the bus and I don't want her washed out. We'll see.
I'm expecting three deliveries today and one collection. Parcels from Amazon, Marks and an online food company incoming and a courier to uplift my work laptop. The joy yesterday was finding the online company which sells German sausages / meats and mustard. I've bought Leberkäse which DM really enjoys; normally I buy it at the Christmas market in Edinburgh but, of course, it's off this year. I'm so delighted at this find, so far!
A second joy was a telephone call from the domiciliary dental surgery. They are being allowed to resume normal'ish service from Monday so are coming to see DM on Tuesday. 🎉🎉 Great whoops of delight came out of my very being.
My free audiobooks are finished. The whole experience was so good for me so I'll continue for a while at least. Funnily I found that I followed the storyline much more easily than when reading it even when stopping and starting. Now I have three weeks to wait for the next credit as I'm not paying the prices for 'books'. I have plenty of physical books to keep me going meanwhile.
So much to say today, it's been a while. 😃
As usual I wish everyone a happy Thursday.13 -
Good morning, thanks for starting NMLC - enjoy your spa day.Hi Tru, good to hear your news, hope you are ok. A Craft Room ! I'm so envious, my craft and sewing stuff is stored in drawers and cupboards here and there.Hester, hope you and Steve are all right, I do read your blog, you have some adventures. We didn't go out on a worktop hunt yesterday, I was so tired after very little sleep the night before, but we ordered the new appliances, they are being delivered on Saturday, and I helped DH take out the old double oven, (well I steadied it while he unscrewed things) then we staggered outside with it. .He took it to bits so he can get it in the car and take to the tip. He'll install the new one on Saturday. We'll go out today and hopefully choose something then we can tell the man who's doing it what to order..Hope everyone has a good Thursday, the CV news doesn't get any better but we must plod on I suppose.Take care folks15

Morning All
Good to hear from you tru.
Well done on the sausage hunt Gers!
TA - Don't do it again!
Very overcast here and heavy rain forecast, just what we need! Some of the washing has gone in the TD, the rest is on the pulley, I haven't done any for a few days and it soon mounts up especially with having to wash everything I wear for work every day.
Should have someone coming to finish the hole in the wall today, I'll leave a key for him. Roof fixer due to come some time but I think the weather will be to rough for a few days.
Later start for me as I have to collect something for work on my way in and it doesn't open until 9.
Have a happy Thursday, take care. XX13 -
Morning all
Damp here and been raining all night and looks like its set in for the day again, I managed to get the dogs out yesterday between showers and stayed dry . OH has gone into work today only to be sent home again due to the weather and his work mate being off, there was no suitable work for him inside so he has an unexpected day off, he will probably go to the boot sale for an hour, and then he can take our pup out later and dd can take hers gives me a day off of doing it
I wrapped a few family birthday presents yesterday I was just going to do dd's when she came home early so will do them another day, I am waiting for a few more xmas presents to arrive and then I shall start on them, I only send a few cards now to neighbours and elderly relatives so I will order a couple of packs and get them written as well ready to post nearer the time.
Dinner tonight will be a jacket spud I think with some cheese and beans for dd and tuna mayo and cold meats and salad for OH and I .
I have a wash on the go which will have to go in the TD later and the kitchen and lounge need a good clean.
Have good days all xx12 -
Morning everyone
Day at home today - I have cleaning and a little ironing to do and some online courses for work. A read of my book this afternoon too no doubt.
I had little one all day on Tuesday and to stay overnight - we had a lovely time together. She is coming on so well and chats away all the time - some makes sense, some doesn't! I'd bought her a pair of butterfly wings on Monday, so she spent a lot of time flapping about shouting 'fly fly!'
Yesterday I spent some time with my dad, as my mam went into town and then had an appointment. We had fish and chips for lunch, which made him very happy! He wanted me to look for an old book of cigarette cards commemorating George V's Coronation, which I found after going through several bags and cupboards. Also found some Lowry pictures and sketches he'd done, so brought those home to frame. My living room and hallway are full of pictures my dad painted, mainly copies of Lowry works - I love having them.
I'd better move and do something useful, so I'll wish you all a good day12 -
Morning all and thank you for starting the thread nmlc. Enjoy your time at the spa!
After a mostly dry day yesterday, today is meant to be pretty wet and the rain will probably stay until Sunday at least, I decided not to look at the forecast for the next days, too dismal.
So far, I'm having a rather nice time watching a small, young crow which has discovered my birdtable. It is a greedy little thing and the messiest feeder, even messier than the pigeons. It has been so wet that the lawn has lots of mushrooms, I can't tell the difference between mushrooms and toadstools even with a fungi spotting guide. I still have leaves to rake, my next door neighbour did his yesterday but more have come down overnight. If there are any dry bits of the day I will do some but it is spotting already so I'm doubtful.
Does anyone know of an efficient but not stinky way of cleaning an oven, bicarb didn't really work. Like Monnagran, it is my unfavourite job, I think I am not cut out for tidiness but I do clean things.
Gers our German market is not happening this year either, it would have been impossible to manage. It has grown bigger and bigger by the year and attracts huge numbers who pack in shoulder to shoulder and drink gluwein, I had a sip from a friend's cup once, it was horribly sweet.
TA take it easy today perhaps!
I am about to start yet another groundhog day, all a bit tedious but what other choice is there!
Take care and stay safe everyone.
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back13 -
Hi everyone, I've finally managed to get on the laptop in the morning, but it's because Esben has gone home which is a sad reason, he leaves a huge hole when he goes.
Laura and Brian also went of course but things are in turmoil for them because Brian's mum was rushed to hospital on Tuesday and is in ICU. I won't go into details but things don't look good (it's not Covid) but it was a real shock as no-one had any idea she was as ill as she is. Of course they can't visit her and she is in Glasgow as well so things are very difficult.
A minor problem for me is that I've lost the side of a tooth, I spoke to the dentist and have an appointment next Wednesday for which they are charging me £40 up front as they seem to reckon that it's an emergency appointment (I made it on Monday morning). I'm just grateful I'm not in pain with it.
I need to sort out the chaos left by a small baby and it's two parents. I also want to clean out the fridge, dinner will be something easy because I've been trying to make interesting and nutritious meals for L and B for two weeks so I think I might leave things up to Steve for a little while. I'm not going to knock myself out, looking after a baby is tiring enough at my age, despite how delightful he is.12
