I'm looking for a company that provides a landline without broadband. It's for my mother in law who is currently with BT and seems to be paying more for just a landline than other charge for landline and broadband combined. I've looked through the websites of likely companies but without success. Does anyone have any suggestions please?

BT provide a discounted price for customers that don’t want or need broadband, there is a £7 a month discount , taking LR to around £13-£14 a month, they also do a deal where they add on calls and some calling features for around £20.
The PO also do (or did) a phone only deal for about the same, but only BT are required to provide a phone only service, other providers don’t have to ,and generally don’t.

PO Broadband offer a landline only deal, though the prices recently went up through the roof.

Depending upon your MiL's age (or health etc), there are "survival" tariffs available from BT that she may be eligible for.  They are hard to find on the website and BT try to imply they are not available if the property had broadband ever before.  OFCOM website says otherwise.

The other thing that you could investigate is the link below.  I have no proper information on the link, it just came up as I was looking for a link for the BT vulnerable person landline only tariff (which I could not find).  You will need to do your own due diligence about this company and their products / service.

If your mother in law is eligible for BT Basic it will wipe the floor price wise with the rest of the market being a social tariff.  Investigate that first, and if she's not eligible remember you don't have to use the broadband, though these days its probably cheaper just to have it set up and then maybe you'll find a use for it later.

Advantage of having Broadband is the ability to keep in touch via Video .

Not sure what 80/20 broadband is sorry, but our ADSL speed was around 3Mbps and fibre is not available, so we now use a WISP and get around 20Mbps

I think what was being implied is that £26.50 for telephony isn’t particularly good as another BT customer gets phone , calls and upper tier FTTC (80/20) broadband for a similar price.
If you don’t want or need broadband on your landline , then you possibly could reduce the price you pay, for example BT have ( or at least did ) have a line rental, calls and calling features package

As far as what is 80/20 broadband, FTTC comes in 3 download speeds , 40/55/80, depending on distance from the cab not everyone can get the maximum download , and the price generally increases in line with the tier ( slower tier cheaper than the faster tiers)
