Marriage tax rebate scam

Help, is there anything I can do?
My 82 year husband applied for a marriage tax rebate, directly with HMRC but it turns out it was not HMRC but a company called Carwood, I contacted HMRC by email, but they send a pre- made message saying how careful we need to be and not to give private details. I Have tried to get through to HMRC by phone but cannot get through,  what can we do please

You need to go back to the company you used and see what their withdrawal /cancellation process Is. HMRC cant help you with this as you have contracted out to a third party.

You might take legal advice (easy if your have Legal Expenses cover as part of your home insurance) to find out whether your husband can bind you to Carwood's terms and conditions. If he cannot, you may be able to stop them by contacting them and confirming that they never had authority to process your information (since he could not give it). This might help - it's about all that can be done. He has entered in a contract and is bound in law. The Carwood website meets all the legal requirements for websites; it makes it really clear that it is not a HMRC website.

I'm sorry to say that his greed has got the better of him - he has rushed into something without properly researching. A case of acting in haste and having to repent at leisure.
The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.

Your title is - Marriage tax rebate scam.
    I wouldn't even call it a scam.
Definition of scam is a dishonest scheme; a fraud.
Which it is neither I suspect.

Agreed its not a scam but it does take in the less than careful.  Lesson learnt, if doing a google search never click on the Sponsored returns at the top and if you are contacting the Governmnet departments either check for gov.uk at end of address or start at GOV.uk which should have links to everything you need.

I thought it was the person giving up part of their tax allowance that had to make the claim?

    It is.

Anyone who applies for Marriage Allowance will only ever pay the same amount of tax or more, never less.

Actually if we got enough people we could all click on their links.  Hope they had no limits on their google ads campaign and cost them an absolute fortune.
