Hi can someone help please. I am at a loss where to go from here. I booked a holiday in Feb for July from Manchester to Barbados with Virgin. With separate flight to Jamaica and separate hotel to the Hilton  and then flight back to London with Virgin. The holiday was cancelled by Virgin at the end of June by Virgin. I got my money back from Virgin and the flights from Barbados to Jamaica but I have gone to the travel company and the credit card company and the travel insurance and no one will give me the money back for the Hilton hotel in Jamaica. Destination2 is the company I booked the hotel with and they have said that they will give me a credit note which expires December 2020 but I want the cash. What can I do now?

    What were the cancellation terms for the stay with destination2? The risk with booking independently is that you are subject to individual components cancellation policies.

    On what grounds was the insurance claim declined?
  •  Was not covered under the cancellation section of my policy.

    You have posted on the wrong forum. One of the Board volunteers may move your post to a more appropriate location. From there you may get better responses.

    In a nut shell the "separate" arrangements you made will not be of concern to Virgin.   I would look at the terms & conditions of the separate arrangement to better understand options. The privately arranged extra hotel will not be concerned how (or if) you get there.  If you also booked a non-refundable rate and the hotel and room is available - you stand to take a loss with no refund due.  Taking a credit voucher might be a generous gesture, one the hotel or Destination2 do not need to offer.  What I would hope you can do is negotiate the expiry date of the voucher.  I would also reread the offer as I suspect it is currently valid for making a revised booking up to end December 2020 rather than travelling by then.  You may well be able to use it for a 2021 or 2022 stay, just book that stay before the end of this year.

    Because?
  • Please may we refer you to the cancellation section of the policy purchased, which lists specific reasons in which it will provide cover. Looking at the policy you purchased the reasons that can be considered if you have to cancel are as a result of;

    the death, injury or illness of you, a travelling companion or close relative.

    Your requirement for Jury Service Duty or being called as a witness in a court of law.

    You having been made redundant,

     the requirements of H.M Forces.

  • Hi do you think I am best to use the credit note and book a holiday for next year or shall I try and get an I do anything else to get my cash back?

    From what you have said you have no legal right to get your monies back and the only way you'd achieve it is as a gesture of goodwill... if you think you are good at pulling peoples heart strings then go for a complaint, if you'd rather see the end of it book a new holiday.
