Lost wallet

Options
I recently lost my wallet which contained all bank cards and my driving licence.
I have cancelled everything so no money has been lost but I'm really concerned about ID fraud, and how this could affect my credit rating if the cards fell into the wrong hands.
Is there anything I can do to avoid this?
I've had to pay to report it to the police, but there seems to be little support online.

Any help appreciated.

Well that is a scam to start with, you do not have to pay to report anything to the police.

If and it is a very very big if, any ID fraud were to take place it has no long term effect, you can just have the record corrected. What happens, if anything is that someone tries to use the bank cards, which are already cancelled and so they do not work, so they throw the whole lot in a bin/hedge.

If you are really paranoid you can ask for a CIFAS protective registration, it costs £25 and lasts two years, but it is not regarded as necessary just because someone loses a wallet.

You regularly check your credit files held by all 3 CRAs - Experian, Equifax and TransUnion - and if you notice any fraudulent accounts being opened then you contact the organisation concerned, ask them to remove them from your files and provide them with the police report you filed.

You're more likely to be scammed through whoever you paid to report it to the Police rather than anyone that finds your lost wallet.
