Extending my iva

Could someone please advise me on what to do,my iva has been switched to another company and i have till thursday to decide if i am going to extend for 2 or 3 years😡i was with aperture with my iva i rang them in january 2018 telling them i couldnt afford the payments i was told to fill in an expenditure form and they would get back in touch i did this but didnt hear off them for 6 months, when they did get in touch it was to tell me that i was in arrears,to this day they still didnt go back to the creditors i was emailing them back and forth explaining that because they didnt help when i asked i am now in about £7000 arrears with the iva,now ive recieved an email to say that my iva has been taken over by someone else it was due to end next year but now because of the arrears they said i have until thursday so they can go back to the creditors and extend it for 2 or 3 years they just arnt interested in the fact that i wouldnt of been in this much arrears if aperture had done what i asked them to do in 2018 as far as they are concerned they arnt apeture so its not their problem, i am on benefits and only went for an iva on the advise of CAB which i thought was a non profit organisation but they did get a payment for referring me which is in my iva contract so i think i paid, so i have now lost trust in them now i dont know where to turn i have only 2 days left,i was also diagnosed with cancer last year and cant even afford to make any memories just hoping i can outlive this iva i dont want to leave it for my husband to deal.thankyou

  • This won't help the OP, but I had an IVA, started in Jan 2014 with Grant Thornton, which completed this year. It seemed to me as though something went wrong at their end about the time that the name was changed to Aperture. When it was Grant Thornton, I had the same supervisor for the entire time and any query was dealt with quickly, but as soon as they changed to (were taken over by?) Aperture the whole ethos seemed to change. In the final 12 months every letter we had from them had a different name at the bottom, and felt generic rather than being specific to our case. Fortunately I was close enough to completion that it didn't really bother me.

    Hi,
Sorry to hear about your situation, however your experiance is probebly typical of an Aperture customer.
How much debt did you start out with ?
    Are you a homeowner ?
Your debt is your debt, and no one else can be made liable for it, to be blunt, if you were to pass away, and your estate had no money or assets to pay the debts, then they would just be written off anyway, if it were me, I  would re-assess my priorities if time may be short for you.

If you're on benefits now with no prospect of returning to work I don't see how you will be able to make realistic IVA payments. Have you asked them if they would:

    (a) Vary the order to mark it completed on the basis of existing payments, or
    (b) terminate it.

You will need to be open about and evidence your medical situation.

As a side note I find what you said about CAB very concerning. I have to say that I have never done that and, in 20 years, I think I have only signposted for an IVA twice (received no incentive for doing so)
  • Thankyou for taking the time reply,i am new to this so im not sure if im actually replying to your comments or starting a new conversation.to answer the first comment i started with £11.000 debt which was all accumulated while on benefits not just in my name but my husbands to and to answer the second question i find that they are very hard to talk to,they never seem to listen its their way or no way,if they listened to me in 2018 i wouldnt be i n such a mess now but they wont take responsibility as for CAB i never knew that they get paid for this sort of thing but its definitely in contract that i paid them £40 as part of my agreement if i had known this i would of looked in other forms of debt relief i always assumed they were there to do their best for you in an unbiased way but if  your given money as an incentive then surely your going to take direction i definitely wouldnt use CAB again again thankyou for your help.

Oh that was terrible advice, 11k of debt and advised to do an IVA ??? That is shocking.
If you are a homeowner, then debt mangement would have been a better choice, if you rent, then a Debt Relief Order (subject to qualifying criteria) again, a better choice.
Never take one agencies word for anything, as with any major purchase, shop around for advice.
I would follow Fatbelly`s advice above, see how that pans out first.
