Any electricians or boiler engineers?

I am having a oil to gas conversion done to my home and getting a WB combi boiler put in.
There seems to be a bit of confusion about the current wiring and how to make it work with the new system.
I have a standard programmer wall clock timer which controls the boiler (I have dual zoned heating and hot water tank) - and it looks like the wiring from the programmer simply goes to 2 wall plug sockets in the garage. These plugs then supply the power to the oil boiler and the pump.
However the engineer is confused as how to connect this to the new gas combi boiler. He says he needs an extra wire to the boiler?
Any ideas?

Your new boiler is a combi type, so no more hot cylinder? Cool. And you have two separate heating zones which are controlled by 'zone valves'? Super-cool.
Wiring this is straight-forward, but beyond the capabilities of describing on this forum. Thankfully Strangle has provided a link for your sparky. Your GasSafe cannot work this out, so don't let him ANYWHERE near the 'leccy' bit, only the gas and water... You need a sparky who is familiar with CH systems.
There is no mystery to this - I can do this as a DIYer. So if your GS is struggling, don't let him even try.
A few things I would say if I may, tho'. You have a wall mounted 'timer'? And presumably you also have two wall-mounted thermostats, one for each zone? Ok, I STRONGLY recommend you ditch all these and fit Programmable Thermostats - one in each zone - instead. These will do the TIMINGS and TEMPS for each zone independently. Eg, if one zone is 'bedrooms', then you can set this PS to 'on at 6am at 21oC and then down to 14oC at 8am. Then back on to 20oC at 9pm and then down to 15oC at 11pm.'
And your 'living area' PS would obviously be quite different.
This is easy to actually 'wire' - the sparky will use a 'wiring centre'. The awkward bit might be running actual cables to the PS locations - they would need to be 3 or 4-wire +earth cables. If this is a problem, then go 'wireless'.
A very important issue is that ALL this stuff MUST be isolated by a SINGLE power switch, usually located next to the boiler.
I can recommend 'Hive' Prog Stats (they are only wireless) as they are super to use and adjust. They are quite costly, tho', so that's your call.
From Strnangle's link, your sparky will likely need

or

(But modern wiring centres have all this labelled inside :-) )0
