O/S Daily Wednesday 28 October 2020
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Still dark and air is cool. It's damp underfoot and yesterday was a mixture of cloud, sun and rain.
DH getting ready for work, as is DS2, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here. DS2 settled and happy.
Dinner last night was lasagne, saute potatoes, and salad for me. Tonight will be a use up of LO's.
Yesterday work was steady, so will see how today goes. I'm working Saturday then on a day off on Monday as had extra hours that I need to use up.
I also have my half day spa treat tomorrow - it was a birthday gift from my parents at the start of the year - this is the first opportunity I've had to use it. Looking forward to that. I spoke to them last night to make sure nothing had changed and we're good to go.
Keep safe and well x

Morning All
Thanks for the start nmlc, hope you enjoy your spa, could do with that myself!
The rain yesterday was epic when I left work, made for a slow drive home. I did stop on my way to pick something up from a Facecloth seller - a beautiful soup toureen and platter (I have a 'thing' for old serving dishes, much to my children's disgust). The toureen has it's lid in tact, a good buy for £10.
Nothing much of note going on, I enjoyed bake off last night but not sure the right one left. White wash to go on when I get in later, it takes so long to do I need to start early enough to hang it before I go to bed and don't like to leave it on whilst I'm at work.
monna - I did contact Argoos and asked them to pass on my thanks to the lovely chap, just hope they do.
Take care all and have a good day. XX

Morning folks and thanks NMLC. Happy half spa day. After yesterday's heavy rain we have lighter rain forecast for today. Then there is a weather warning out for even heavier rain tomorrow. Oh nice!
I have a telephone appointment with the practice pharmacist this morning to discuss all my medication. Don't know what that entails, considering she doesn't even know me, but I suppose it means they can tick a box saying I they are looking out for my welfare whilst they are not seeing patients.
We are still clinging on to Tier 2 here but the rumblings on moving to Tier 3 continue. It's annoying really when the numbers hereabouts are not too alarming, but we are paying the price for being parcelled up with the highly populated distant city areas where numbers are high.
I have plans afoot (in my mind at least!!) to do a bit of a move around in here. The heavy stuff will have to stay where it is but I want to move my "nest" from one end of the big sofa to the other. This will mean swapping smaller stuff around to accomodate all the bits and pieces I like to have to hand! If I have energy left after that I want to bring the bookcase in here from the hallway and replace it with the big coffee table in here as it is beginning to annoy me! It seems a big plan just to get rid of an annoying coffee table!! The remaining problem then is where to put the ottoman thing that houses all my family history stuff which I can't easily get into because of all the stuff that's ended up living on the top of it!
Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) for all in need. Take care one and all and stay sane and safe xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"12 -
Good morning and thank you for starting the thread nmlc. Hope you enjoy your spa experience, what a treat!
Yesterday it stopped raining mid afternoon so I got outside for a while though I did get a bit cold. Looks more promising this morning, more leaves to rake up.
I must clean the oven, other than that and leaf raking, no fascinating plans.
Hope everyone has a good day.I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back13 -
Morning everyone.During the mammoth rainfall yesterday I swear I saw the animals lining up in pairs! Never seen such sustained rain before. It started at about 10.00am and didn't stop.My coffee and chat was lovely. The ex-neighbour is a real chatterbox, I'm not, so being with her is easy and lively. The cafe owner asked us to move tables as we were on a four-seater, we didn't mind at all. I'm back there this morning for breakfast with my friend.I ordered the Marks beauty box to give as a Christmas gift. This year they are being delivered by Royal Mail, I think that they had problems last year with the advent box as smaller stores struggled to store them.Restrictions for Scotland are changing next week allowing some regions more normality. Not here, yet, though hospitality rules are being relaxed a little. 😀 Perhaps it's because some establishments have won court cases about having to close. Well done them. 🎉
Time to shift myself. I need to get ready and then prepare a flask of tea and a sort of buffet breakfast for DM.
I hope that everyone has a happy Wednesday.13 -
Morning all weather is a little brighter at the moment but will it last

Thanks for the thread Nmlc and hugs to all those in need.
We have lots of rain yesterday so Beano only went out for very short walks. I posted off my broken hearing aid which cost £14 in postage, hopefully it will be returned quickly, we waited three weeks for Steve's. I finished a crochet lap blanket and a knitted capelet and started a granny shawl so I'll continue with the shawl today.
We had a hire Boat to last too fast yesterday, but is and the CRT boat on the opposite bank. In my usual ladylike fashion I bellowed "Slow the fcuk down" but they took no notice. I realised they'd left all the lock paddles up so I collected my windlass, closed the paddles and then walked down to check the previous lock and sorted that one too.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs HesterChin up, Titus out.12 -
Good morning, not a bad morning here, cold though.I'm tired after a bad night, so I don't foresee much happening today, wish I could sleep like DH, but I don't.We were out yesterday looking at kitchen appliances and worktops. Everything seems to be stainless steel and black or grey worktops, neither of which I want. There aren't many white appliances about, but you can get them, but they are not fashionable. I'm not bothered about fashion though. The joiner came last night to measure things, I'm not having a total re do as the cabinets are still good, just appliances, sink and worktops. I'm quite excited! He told us some other places to go for worktop, so we'll do that today if I can get off my arris and stop yawning.Have a good Wednesday and take care folks14

Morning! Mixed weather again, it's sunny for now but who knows in twenty mintues? I have put the heating on for an hour because it was quite chilly down here first thing. will have to get the timer sorted for on and offs in the winter. And I still haven't ordered wood.I started sewing the stuff. My god, it;s like fighting with a slippery, rhino-skinned cardboard box. It's not very easy in other words. There was much swearing and being stabbed by pins....We'll see how today goes. I need to make some bias bindng just to cover the raw edges on the inside. And I didn't make anything for supper, we did a Marie Antoinette and ate cake [not historically accurate but you know..] and drank coffee. We snacked on fridge goods instead as OH had a friend round outside, which necessitated us getting the heater up there in the dark before he came. Worked though, and with the sides up it'll be quite cosy. Not so great when the wind is blowing.Might do a chicken stew for tonight and unearth the cheapie reduced priced ready cooked chicken legs and thighs I got a couple of weeks ago. I can just chuck them straight in. I've got some chicken stock left in the freezer from when I boiled the bones from the last roast chicken I did so it all gets used in the end...Have a good day all if you can, hey readers along, watch out for Wednesday....Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi11

Morning
Lovely day here but chilly
My most hated day planned today, its drowning in paperwork day. To be fair I've been putting it off for a while so no more excuses. Give me a garage to declutter or a cupboard to tidy any day. At least I can work with netflix on in the background
Yesterday I cleared out one of my kitchen cupboards in which I found 3 bottles of golden syrup plus a tin, 4 bottles of bbq sauce and 5 bottles of red wine vinegar....oh dear I have a way to go on this mission I feel. Any recipes that include all 3 would be appreciated
I also have an abundance of eggs it seems so tonight is a ham and cheese omelette with some chips
Have a good day all11 -

Dry here for the moment but more rain due later on, yesterday it did not stop raining all day really heavy rain too, I took the dogs to the park for a quick 1/2 hr and my trousers got soaked my top half was ok as I have a really good coat but my legs were drenched I think I need to invest in a pair of waterproof trousers !! The dogs loved it though and one towel dried they lay in front of the fire for the afternoon snoozing.
Dinner tonight is chicken casserole my mums recips which involves hot dogs from a tin, sounds revolting but is really nice, I think she added the hot dogs when us children were young to bulk out the chicken as we did not have a lot of money, anway I shall get it ready this morning to put in a low oven this afternoon we shall have rice with it.
DW emptied this morning and a wash is nearly finished, will have a sweep through later and mop after the dogs have been out.
Groundhod day today again, dog walking this morning and then I might start to wrap the Birthday presents which gets one part of the job out of the way.
Nels hope your paperwork goes ok, have you watched 'The Queens Gambit' on netflix ? very good story about a young orphan who becomes a world renowed chess player, its brilliant and I cant stop watching xx
Have good days all xx
