I think the OP has the current set-up (correct me if I'm wrong...)
House has a usable loft space, separated from the rest of the house by a wooden loft hatch-door. Loft has a window in it, so it quite light up there during the day. The upstairs landing under the loft hatch is quite dark. If OP could have a clear, see through loft hatch-door instead of the wooden one, more light would get into the landing, thus making the whole upstairs landing area brighter.
This is essentially the same situation I have, where it can be quite dark on the landing if all the bedroom doors leading onto the landing are closed. However, I'm a sensible lad, so I keep the doors open during the day, and the light is fine.
I'm not sure if you could replace the wooden loft hatch-door with a 7mm clear perspex sheet cut to the same size? I would have thought doing this would reduce the insulation of the hatch-door, as on my wooden hatch-door I have insulation on the 'loft side'. But it would let light into the landing area from the loft.

Imagine all those spiders you'd see run across it!

Couldn't you get someone to make up a double-glazed window to fit into the hatch space? Just explain it doesn't need to be fitted like a standard window would, because you need to be able to move it when you want to get up there!0

Frosted glass might be better than clear. It'd allow light through without the dusty view of the loft interior. Looking up at night into a dark loft might be a bit creepy.
