Post a Horror Story

We never used the shower as there was a loose tile and water would leak in the kitchen below. It also wasn't in good condition. As my wife was pregnant and would struggle to use the bath, I decided to get the shower replaced. Called around numerous places and no one would touch it as it was a small/annoying job to do without replacing the entire bathroom. So, against my better judgement I went on to Rated People. Now, Rated People is not a bad website but when you have jobs like this, you tend not to hear back from anyone until you get the bottom of the barrel tradesman and that's what I got.

The guy seemed competent enough so went ahead. Alarms bells rang when he drilled through to the other side of the wall, messing up the passage wall and coving. Alarms bells rang further when I had to show him how to screw certain things in. Alarm bells were blaring towards the end when he was slapping on tiles without spacers and obviously rushing. We also got him to fit a new kitchen tap and put up some decorative tiles. The result?

In addition to the damaged wall, the shower wasn't sealed properly and a pipe burst leading to a constant trickle of water down the kitchen walls which could only be stopped by turning off the mains. Damaged ceiling, damaged wall.

The kitchen tap he fitted was very loose after a week or so and on closer inspection the tiles he fitted in the kitchen were not grouted and and shoddily stuck on. In all he !!!!!! up 3 areas of the house and to this day they are still not fixed.

Sounds like you watched him mess up the house? He was obviously not competent but you gave him extra work which include plumbing? You would have probably done better if you watched a tutorial and did it yourself since the job was that small?
