Transplanting Cyclamen
Options
There is a tiny cyclamen in the lawn of our communal garden. Never noticed it before but this year It has produced a flower even though it is struggling to survive. At some time the garden maintenance company will just run the lawn mower over it when they come to cut the grass. Presumably this is not the best time to transplant it but I’m thinking of rescuing it. What are its best chances, put it in a pot or straight into a flower bed?

Lucky you, they are a picture this time of year, so dainty but toughIf you dig it up with a good chunk of soil then put the soil & corm in a pot with a bit of TLC for the winter, hardy enough but then you'll know where it isIt may even set some seed to help a patch get goingEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens3

Maybe add some grit to that soil too, they like sharp drainage.2

They really are tough. I've just stuck them in the ground. I have one huge corm that I chucked aside to replant and forgot. It's been blooming gloriously for 2yrs. Now I daren't move it.So I'd be inclined to plant it somewhere it won't be disturbed. With all the wet at the moment it will hardly know it's been moved
I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

I've grown some from seed I got in a Yellow Book garden....err by paying for them in labelled packets I might add.
National collection or something. I just did lucky dip, without knowing if they are rare or difficult. Anyway, here they are a year later, so I'll probably take them through winter in pots and then plant out.
