Also, what day of the month is reward paid in? Is it same for everyone, or different, depending on when the reward account was opened/upgraded?

Does anyone know if paying off my Amex CC with my Halifax debit card counts towards £500 monthly spending required for earning rewards?
    Yes.
The £5 is paid around the 12th of the month for everyone

The "Yes" applies to the Amex question?

Would be nice if it did.

I got in touch with Halifax at the start and asked about that. I was told its debit card spends only.

Whether that's the case or not I don't know. There's people who have apparently found a workaround or two but it's all hush hush from some. Otherwise it's buried in the thread on the topic that's 10,000 pages long.

The customer service rep probably misunderstood you or has no idea what they are talking about.

Any cleared debit card spend using your Halifax debit card totaling £500+ each month will meet the spending requirement. Spending on a CC (including Amex) obviously won't count, but using your Halifax debit card to pay off your CC (as opposed to paying by direct debit from your Halifax reward account) will meet the spending requirement.

Or the person who implemented the software didn't understand what they were supposed to do, or it was too much work to filter out the transactions and it was decided they'd fix the issue by just telling people to spend and hope that we wouldn't notice. I reckon we are a small percentage of their customers.
I manually move money from account to account & each account only has one payee setup so I can't mess it up.
Mobile banking apps make it much easier.

    That's interesting then.
And thank you for actually posting, whereas plenty don't.
Does that mean then that if you have a credit card payment totalling £1000 then you could pay it off £500 from account 1 and £500 from account 2 and those 2 accounts will get their £5 bonus that month?

My Amex direct debit is over £1000 every month anyway so would then just leave the joint account to have £5000 in as i don't think we spend £1500 per month on the credit card.

    Yea, that’s what I do
  • OP.  I'm not sure if you're thinking of switching from the £5k balance route to the £500 spend route mid year, but if so then you might want to just make sure that you can actually do that.  I seem to recall that you have to stick with whichever you selected for the full 12 months(?).

ETA: our rewards trackers make specific mention of meeting the £500 spend criteria, with no mention of the £5k option...
