Buying House with Solar Panels

******IMPORTANT*******
If they decide to leave them, please ensure that they complete the required FIT Transfer Of Ownership Form or you'll never be able to get the FIT into your name. It took us seven months to get our FIT transferred into our name when we bought a house with solar panels and we had the form!"If you think it's expensive to hire a professional to do the job, wait until you hire an amateur." -- Red Adair5 -
I am sure it is different when you own the panels but is there definitely no legal requirement that the party who receives the FIT actually owns the property on which the solar panels are installed? That is certainly the case with the free ones and there have been several threads over the years about the royal pita it is just transferring the agreement for the free leccy when you sell.
I wish you luck, OP, and hope you will keep us informed as to your progress/decision to run screaming regarding this property.0 -
Thanks all!
To update, my solicitor has informed me that after been told to go ahead and remove the panels the sellers have changed their minds and decided to leave them in place and transfer the FIT payments. What a surprise!
Obviously now just need to make sure legally it is all locked down in the contract.3 -

Hi We are in a situation where sellers and or estate agent calculatedly hid the fact about solar panels, they didnt mention in brochure or during house viewing. Once they accepted our offer they sent through documents (registry view ) where we found out that solar pnels are on rent a roof scheme with 25 years lease and there was a deed of variation in 2019, they havent sent deed of variation nor the lease document for solar panels yet, we stumbled on this and have with held our solicitors and bank survey and put counter offer of, either buy out of solar panels by sellers or knock off price from our offer that is equivalent to buying out solar panels ourselves, they didnt agree. And still didnt send lease document so i dont even know if there is a buy out option at all. We liked the house a lot but dont have any expert advise to proceed or stop. Can anyone help with this please.0
