Laptop image size problem

My laptop running windows 10, updated a while back and now every time I go to a new website the image is well over sized so I have to manually reduce it via the ‘three dot button’ in the top right hand corner. It always starts at 125% and to correct it, I need to go down to about 80% to get all the content on the screen.

When I revisit that page it’s ok, it appears to remember the setting but the problem persists with new sites.

How can I stop this happening all the time please, and out of interest, why does it have to be reduced to around 80%, I would have thought a 100% would be the correct setting or is it not that simple?

Is there something in settings that will sort this out?

What browser are you using?  Three dots would imply Chrome (or the new Edge), so in chrome://settings/appearance (similar for Edge - chrome://settings/appearance ) you can set a default zoom level in the appearances section of the settings.

Hope I’m not being thick but, when I go to settings I can’t find a heading for ‘appearance’ the only thing I find is under systems/display

I then have a heading scale and layout, this is set on 125% recommended

Under this is display resolution 1920x1080 recommended.

Am I looking in the wrong place?

You're in the wrong section.

Open your web browser (are you using Chrome?) and click the three dots, then follow my post above.  You need to be in the settings of the browser, not the settings of Windows.
