Failed survey - Insulation

Hi all,
I hope everyone is well. This is my first post on here so please bear with me!
My girlfriend and I are in the process of buying a new home, all was going very well until last week when the survey/valuation failed. The surveyor popped his head in the loft and instantly failed it. It would of passed everything else. We are told it failed due to 'spray insulation' and so the surveyor couldn't see the joists/beams? We asked to see the report from the mortgage but of course they couldn't send to us probably as it would of breached data laws. Anyway we are left feeling anxious and not knowing what's next... we love this house and really want it. It is a god send this was checked as we would of been lumbered with the bill if this was never checked. To my question can anyone shed any light on what is this spray foam and why it instantly failed the valuation/survey? Is it easy to resolve? is it pricey? is it a whole new roof?
The sellers at the moment what to fix this and sell it to us still which is the answer we wanted. We are just hoping this isn't a super expensive job out of their limit and it may then end up going to auction... which is the worse possible scenario for us.
Many thanks,
Cam

By 'failed' I assume you mean the mortgage lender has declined to lend on this property.Very wise. You have avoided buying a property with 'spray insulation' which can be very problematic, and hugely expensive to remove, plus adds hugely to the cost of re-roofing if ever needed.Be grateful you've found out before commiting.
